“Very poor room in a hotel under the stadium”
Reviewed 7 March 2012

The hotel Stadel, when you arrive, seems to be a very charming hotel with flowers at the entrance and so on. Once you arrive at the reception, everything is OK but you remark that you are in a some cheap hotel, all the furniture, the restaurant and the deco is of the 60-70s, and even if it is clean and correct you are not going to have a lot of pleasure. The food is good but you must easily wait for more than 30 minutes before receiving your meal.
But the worst is the room. It is a very spartiate one, with two small beds, very small of size, with a too thin mattrass, impossible to sleep correctly, you are going to have the minimum of comfort, in the bathroom or in the room. The only 2 positive aspects are : free internet with a cable (but not very quick) and a large space in the room.
Knowing that you have to pay 80 dollars a night for that, I would prefer to find something more elegant and comfortable, even if a little bit more expensive.

Stayed as a family in two rooms. Rooms are large but poorly furnished. Sofa and chair covers were dirty. Housekeeing was poor. Instead of repeated reminders they insisted on keeping just a single bath towel. No coffee/ tea making facility was provided. No WiFi was available. Front desk staff helpfully offered their computer for checking my mail. Food and service at the restaurants was good. There is a South Indian vegetarian restaurant that serves some authentic food. Kids have a lot of space to play and run around.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to be the same.

The Hotel is a good choice at the price you pay for it and keeping in mind its Kolkata. Its a clean hotel with all standard facilities, good rooms with modern furnitures etc and of decent size, especially for the price they took from me. Bath rooms have bath tubs. Its a nice choice if you are on business or work. Something not that great but fairly good at the price you are paying but I personally feel that its not a hotel where one would put up if one is on a vacation. However for people checking in late nights, do not expect food as they do not have a 24 hrs restaurant. The lounge mostly plays hindi numbers because of the crowd, but if you make a request, they might be able to grant you, your wish. Avoid ground floor rooms as there is a lawn in front of the windows and people inside the rooms and their activities are visible to people in the lawn at night.

Room Tip: Please ask them to keep food for you if you are checking in late.

I did not stay at the hotel as It was only for a 2 days of business meet that was held at the Hotel. The hotel appeared grand from the outside with a superstructure of a stadium outlining the backdrop. In fact after pondering over i knew why it was called The Stadel. In fact the hotel is built outside the Salt Lake Stadium with the dull grey superstructure of the stadium above the hotel spoiling the grandeur of the hotel. A hotel built in the stadium that's why the name STADEL (or so). Finding the hotel was not difficult, but only if they would place the signboard out side the hotel in a more prominent place. Service et al is OK. I cannot speak of comfort and luxuriousness of staying at the hotel, but certainly a very quite environment for having business meets etc.
