Hotel is in good location. Just 10 mins walk to mall Road. But oh my god does this hotel need overhauling!! Good size rooms but need renovation at the earliest. Restaurant food has to be improved. Seen better in Gangtok of same hotel group. Staff is amazingly good. Thank God! I think staff is the only plus point of Summit Group. It is because of them that 50%of your frustration gets cancelled. Wake up management before this beautiful property goes to dumps.

Dear Guest,

Namaste!

Thank you for sharing your review on TripAdvisor.

Summit Swiss Heritage Hotel is indeed the oldest hotel in Darjeeling and when Summit took over the property the hotel was in a run down condition and the charm of Darjeeling Yesteryear had lost its glory. It was then, Summit saved the property by renovating its interiors and exteriors and by working on its ambiance and as it is a heritage hotel Summit have always tried to preserve its antique looks, though the facilities and amenities provided are all modern. Summit has now bigger plans for this heritage property and I am sure you would love to experience the change.

We have come a long way just because of our guest valuable feedback only, as it has helped us in improving our services and ultimately the guest experiences. I have shared your review with the entire team and they have promised to put extra effort in making every guest stay memorable.

The entire reception team were happy to hear from you and thanked you for your kind words of appreciation. We really look forward to your visit in the near future and the opportunity to create a WOW moment for you.

We went to Darjeeling at the end of April and after a lot of painful deliberation, we chose this property primarily because most of our other preferred properties (The Central, Summit Yashasree etc) were sold out. To be honest, we were somewhat disappointed with everything about this property. There wasn't one single aspect other than the restaurant staff, who were truly excellent, that will pull us back in here.

RECEPTION : Straightaway, there is a lot to say about the staff at the reception desk. We had heard a lot about the courtesy of Mr. Ayush but we only met him once. Most of the time, we dealt with another gentleman at the reception. Let's call him Mr.A since we didn't note his name. This man was so icy cold at all times, it almost felt like he was a CBI inspector interrogating suspects.

The worst part is this : it was raining when we reached the hotel and the first thing that was said when we got into the reception was not 'how was your journey?' or 'would you like a towel'. None of that. Mr. A looked at us and in a robotic monotone voice said 'You need to pay the remaining amount to us before checking in...NOW'. The 'NOW' was said in an almost intimidating tone which really caught us off guard. He then said that he would send the Welcome drinks to our room and keeping with the fine tradition of this place, those Welcome drinks NEVER arrived. Well done!

ROOM : We booked a cottage and were given the Kanchenjunga cottage. It was a decent sized room with a nice TV(that worked in patches because the power would be off a lot), some small chairs/sofas and 2 big comfy king beds. Weirdly only one of the beds had the electric blanket and the other didn't.

BATHROOM: We had read that the bathrooms of this hotel were terrible and we went in expecting the worst. To be honest, it wasn't as bad as we expected. We were expecting a 'public toilet' and basically got a mediocre old bathroom with a couple of broken faucets and taps. It was strictly ok, can't say anything more than that.

FOOD: This is the part where this hotel scores. Good food and excellent restaurant staff, always available with a smile on their faces. All of them were really courteous, prompt and professional. The complimentary breakfast had a decent spread of stuff as well ; nothing spectacular but we liked the professionalism of the service.

TRAVEL DESK: One of the worst aspects of this hotel. We booked a cab from their desk to go to Tiger Hill and we specifically asked them to arrange for it to come by 03:30 AM since otherwise, the walk to Tiger Hill is long and arduous due to car parking issues. Their driver turned up at 05:00 AM in a broken down, old Santro and acted like there was nothing wrong.

During the journey to Tiger hill, I specifically told him that my parents both suffer from knee problems and requested him to park as close to the top as possible, so that the walk wouldn't be that much. This driver, Jikmi or something, was such a liar, such an insensitive fraud that he parked the car ALL the way down the hill and told us 'Well, this is as far as we are getting'. We had to walk 3 kms up and 3 kms down and what's more, since we reached so late, we didn't even see the sunrise. There were so many other cars who were near or at the top of the hill. They had arrived early, parked there, watched the sunrise and then left, satisfied. No such luck for us.

Any hotel that demands full payment even before a guest has seen the room or experienced the service, is clearly insecure. They know that their service, their rooms etc are not good enough to make guests want to stay. Hence, they demand the full payment, with the knowledge that wasting such a hefty amount of money would sting and therefore, the guests would have to stay the course, whether they like it or not.

All in all, it was a very poor experience for us. The location is also not something to be bragging about, as it is a 15 minute walk from the Mall Road. The Central Heritage or the Summit Yashasree are much better located. Except the restaurant staff and the food, we didn't find anything in this hotel that would bring us back. Will be come back ever again? Definitely not. There are much better choices and for the price they are charging, you can add a thousand bucks and book the Elgin and experience their perfection.

Room Tip: Choose the cottages. Try and ask for the Kanchenjunga or the Pandim Cottage.

We went in a small group for 2 days in early May 2017.
The property is located 15 minutes in walking distance from the Darjeeling Mall. on J N Gandhi Road. There are cottages and rooms all made of wood from top to bottom. This is 102 year old property which has been maintained with care.
Swiss Summit has a smart staff who serves with a smile and at least tries to make your stay very comfortable. The beds, bathrooms etc are quite luxurious.
They have 13 rooms, with most of the rooms having a great view of Kanchenjunga. Specially the lawn from where you can enjoy the view sipping hot Darjeeling tea while sun bathing .
Enjoy local cuisines at their restaurants, I would not recommend eating anything else as that needs to improve.
Overall I had a very pleasant stay and I would certainly recommend others to get a feel of it.

Room Tip: Take cottage if you are travelling with family or a group.
