My family took a short excursion to Darjeeling in November 2011 and stayed at the Mayfair Hotel for 3 nights. The reception staff were very friendly and quick to help with any questions we had, for example we needed information regarding how to get to a Tea Estate in the Jalpaiguri district which they were able to assist with. The morning that we were due to leave really early in the morning to travel to the Tea Estate (Before breakfast was due to be served), the hotel very kindly offered to prepare a packed breakfast and also a packed lunch for us including juice, muffins, sandwiches and cakes to take with us on our travels. It was really nice of them to provide us with food for our travels and the food in general at the hotel was good too although we didnt experience the buffet breakfast during our stay. They have a fantastic range for vegetarians...the food for the evening meal reminded me of my grandmothers curry. The serving staff were attentive and friendly, especially our favourite-Simon!
I loved the quirky decor of the hotel, especially the aesthetics of the outside of the building! It was beautiful. We had booked a family room which basically incorporates two separate bedrooms each with their own bathroom which was great. Both of the rooms included an electric heater and a log fire too as in November Darjeeling gets quite cold.
I would recommend this hotel as the service was excellent, the rooms were clean and cosy and all the staff were friendly. We will be returning to this hotel in the future!

I visited Mayfair Darjeeling for 4-5 days in the 1st Week of January, 2012 with my family. We took advantage of an Off-Season package they offered us which included a Double Deluxe Room, Breakfast & Dinner. The hotel was impressive, appealing and comfortable. It's a place you want to return to. The staff were courteous, but they were a bit short-handed, especially in the dining area. The breakfast buffet was very good, the dinner however, could have been better, especially for non-vegetarians. The travel arrangements made by the hotel - airport pick ups & drops (included in the package) and local sightseeing were quite satisfactory. We also took advantage of their Spa facilities and they were pretty good. Our kids enjoyed the play area near the Library. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and readers here.

Room Tip: We had a double deluxe room in the Orchid Villa. It was spacious, comfortable and quiet.

Our stay at the Mayfair was excellent. The staff was very kind to us and showed us the utmost hospitality, from providing us with umbrellas to giving us cake in our room! The staff in the dining hall was excellent as well, and there was a plethora of indo-chinese and continental cuisine. The only problem we ran into was that one of the staff booked an excursion for us that included the Zoo and the Mountaineering Institute, but both of these places happened to be closed the day we took the excursion - if the staff can know ahead of time what will be opened and closed, that would be helpful. Otherwise, I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. There is a lovely lawn on the property where you can sit in the morning, and feel the mist and the fresh air of Darjeeling. The excursions we did go on, such as going to the Happy Valley Tea Estate and on the Darjeeling Toy Train, were so much fun! When we got home in the evening, we were able to retire by drinking tea that was provided in our rooms and curling up with blankets as we watched TV. The rooms are beautiful, with wooden floors and walls and cozy beds and sofas. We enjoyed the views of the highlands thoroughly. Also, one thing that unfortunately deters people from visiting Darjeeling is the thought of having to drive up 7,000 feet on the side of a hill. I would ask those people not to feel hesitant because the drivers associated with the Mayfair hotel are EXCELLENT, and they know about safety and how to manage driving these roads. They will pick you up at the Bagdogra airport, take you back, and can take you on a number of excursions throughout the region. The Mayfair hotel made Darjeeling unforgettable for us; we miss it a lot and can not wait to go back to the Mayfair one day!

This was my second trip to mayfair darjeeling and i am happy to see that they have maintained their standards and in some aspects to have improved as well. The staff were very courteous and friendly and did their best to make our stay comfortable. We stayed for 3 nights on and from 21st Jan 2012 and inspite of the biting cold outside the common areas were always very comfortable. The rooms were kept warm with room heaters and the fireplaces were lit every night and there was no dearth of coal. The rooms were beautifully decorated and were very spacious and comfortable. The tea room and the dining rooms top are very beautifully made up I could find no fault with either the decor or the hospitality. However there were a couple of blotches which prevented from marking the hotel with a perfect 5 star. The first was the non performance of their geysers in the bathrooms. To be fair water is scarce in darjeeling but they ensured we got water round the clock but the geysers always stooped midway between baths. The second and more important grouse is that the quality of food has really gone down. I am able to say this because the last time we visited in 2004 the food was exceptional and this time it was quite ordinary. I believe they have sent their best cooks to sikkim and as a result the taste of food has really gone down. I had probably the worst sausages in my life here for breakfast. Coming back to the positives I would recommend this hotel to all travellers who can afford the cost as no other hotel in Darjeeling comes close because I have stayed in New Elgin, Windemere, Sinclairs and none of them come close ..... happy holidays

Room Tip: Room no. 6 above the reception is big and very comfortable
