This was my business trip and I was with my guests. The ambiance of this hotel was very good. Room provided was very comfortable and were maintained in proper way.
Staff were very helpful and they ensured we were comfortable. The food was amazing and the services were very fast. Breakfast was complimentary.

Booked this hotel directly, as i went to Darjeeling from gangtok in unplanned way. i hate to say but it was a bad idea to go without hotel booking. close to Mall road there was not any decent hotel where i found a room in the evening. i had to compromise in a hotel for one night and morning i settle for hotel capital in the morning. to my surprise it was better deal than i could have planned. i got a valley facing room, with balcony at a amazing prices. this hotel has just 13-14 rooms, but rooms were pretty okay as such. View and location of hotel was the best part. room were actually cozy , and rest room were not that great but still manageable and never had a problem of hot water or electricity. Many hotels in darjeeling give hot water only for 2-3 hours. so this was pretty good from that perspective.

For traveller on budget, this is a pretty good deal from all perspective. i didn't try hotel food, as it didn't look like they would be good in that. The hotel manager was very cooperative in arranging taxis at a very reasonable prices and helped us with relevant information.

So if looking for budget hotel in darjeeling close to mall road, this is the place with great views of valley.

Only negative thing is closeness to taxi stand, so if you are lowere floor, then you will hear lot of noise in the night and early morning. That's only negative thing i could remember here.

  • Liked — location and view from the hotels
  • Disliked — noise from outside

We decided to check out & stay at the Hotel Capital because it was a crap-looking place that we knew would probably be cheap…& we were right. You generally get what you pay for & it was true in this instance but if a local had to pay $700 IDR he’d have 2 heart attacks. After travelling a long way from NJP station all we wanted to do was eat & rest.

The room was ur ordinary budget type cheapo but had freshly painted pink walls, red carpet & 80’s style furniture & tables, which basically means furniture that is 30 years old. We paid $700 INR for a room with a queen bed for 3 & had to wrestle all night for the blanket waking up cold, tired & hungry. There was hot water for showers & a sit-down toilet. There was a 51cm TV that was dead until the manager sent in a kid to poke at the power point which solved the problem. Like a cheesy movie there are 2 bright orange street lights outside the window that do a good job of reminding you all night how cheap u are for not paying for a better hotel.

The Hotel Capital does have room service but the cook doubles as the manager who happens to be the only other dude who speaks English. Security is good as they lock the metal gate in the stairwell at night. The manager sleeps behind the reception desk so he is easily able to be disturbed to open the gate for the early morning trip to Tiger Hill, simply poke him with something to get his attention cos he was a heavy sleeper.

We negotiated for the largest room which was right next to the reception desk & talked the manager into knockn off a couple of hundred rupees, I’ve realised my whinging rather than negotiations skills work better. No facilities were offered or available that I know of. I found a cheaper place the next day at the Hotel Alice Villa that had a fireplace. I packed my bags pretty quickly & bolted.

The Hotel Capital is located just around the corner from the clock tower which is widely used as a reference point in Darjeeling & directly in front of the main pickup for the dawn viewings of Mt Everest at Tiger Hill. It is located around the bottom of the main tourist street leading up to the town centre. A small police booth is located across the road as well as some quieter restaurants.

This hotel is OK for a budget traveller so there shouldn’t be any complaints if spending as little as possible is ur agenda. It is comfortable enough & has all the trappings of a cheap hotel without the creepy manager or smelly carpet.
