The food bit is really messed up in darjeeling, the food quality is not really good unless ofcourse if you stay at either mayfair/elgin/windermere than the food served there would be of acceptable standards.Glenarys is one of the best bets in darjeeling,if you want to get dinner you must get in there by 7 pm to get a seat...otherwise you would have to wait.

When it comes to cakes, pies, puddings, pastries or any baked items and one is in Darjeeling , undoubtedly the first place you head to is Glenary's. On numerous accounts as child growing up, each time someone from home visited Darjeeling, it was mandatory for them to bring me back a goody bag filled with items from this renowned bakery and confectionery. Till date it remains my most favorite Cake shop ever, nothing in the world would change that. My personal favorites here are the Black Forest which just melts in your mouth, the chocolate doughnuts, chicken patties, the cream rolls and plain cakes. I'm not a big fan of fruits and nuts, but the fruit loaf is worth trying especially with thick spreads of butter with your morning tea.
There is also a sit out area where you can order breakfast and other fast food items and have a view of the mountains as well.

We stayed just opposite to this restaurant. We used to have morning tea ( excellent black darjeeling tea), dinner. The food is excellent specially their continental preparation.

The bustling interiors of this cafe presents a diverse mix of devotees. People from many cultures converge here for eggs and pastries. While there is a low hum of baking from the adjoining unit, there is a perceptible hustle bustle among waiters and the flux of visitors mostly moving in, but sometimes moving out. Glenary's is an active beauty of a glasshouse to feed people with all good things in food ( read eggs, sausages, pastries, scones, choloclates, tea, OJ...it goes on) while giving an ambience of being surrounded by the beauty of the exotic mountains. A not to miss experience for anybody going to Darjeeling. We had breakkies, snacks, bought lots of goodies. It is an integral celebration of being in Darjeeling.
