Owner description: This expansive beach is Chennai's most famous tourist attraction, though the undercurrent is too strong for all but the strongest swimmers. Look out for the "Kannagi" statue on Marina Beach, which tells the story of the legendary character from a South Indian epic.

“Stay Away at All Costs!”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

This is the dirtiest and most unkempt beach I have ever had the misfortune to see! The place is full of hawkers and beggars and your "western features" will bring the children out from the shanties with their hands outstretched for money! I was accosted by the young, the elderly and the infirm with pleas for money! I never felt unsafe though my driver was following close in the car in case of trouble! I suppose the only saving grace of the place is the possibility of photographs of people and the fish sellers who certainly had some great specimens of fish and prawns on display (swarming with flies though).

If you have nothing to do for about 25 minutes and fancy to see the worse part of Chennai then take the time to visit, but don’t expect anything like a pristine beach or a moments peace from children, beggars, hawkers and auto drivers plying their trade! If you insist on seeing a beach in the south east of India then take a trip to Fisherman’s Cove!

“longest dirty beach”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

we are proud to have in our country a second longest 13 kms. beach next to miami beach in USA. But it is not kept clean by the visitors. Lot of food stalls and fancy items are available. Proper place to sit is not available and you have choice to sit on the sand to enjoy your cool evening after hot sunny days... always...

“Just great”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

A beach is a beach. Nothing can beat the nature in its might. The beach is clean compared to many others in India. Over the weekend, you dont get car parking easily. but its fun in the beach with all the eateries and kids play.

Reviewed 15 April 2012

What can we say about the world famous MARINA beach as everyone already knows that it is the second largest beach in the world and evry indian from parts other than chennai would thrive to visit this place atleast once in there lifetime because of its beauty and wat else there are no words to express the joy we would feel after visiting here and just simply staring at the sea waves or for hardcore enjoyment we can even have a sun bath here and this place definitely has the essence of chennai to it..........
