“Comfortable hotel in an excellent location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2012

This is a very comfortable hotel in an excellent location in Chennai- on the arterial Mount Road and close to the main shopping area of T Nagar. Not very far from the airport- a little over half an hour from the airport. Service is prompt and efficient if a little clinical ok for a business hotel. Peculiar approach to the lobby area- one has to take the elevator from the hotel entrance. Spacious and comfortable room but choice of channels on TV somewhat limited. Comfortable bed and sofa, but the single chair in the room could be more comfortable. Good restaurant.

I stayed here for a quite a few days on business. It does not really have that much local character, but "Spice Market" makes a very tasty Dhosa for breakfast. You gotta order it at the open kitchen. I did not see it on a menu or a list. Ask for the Masala kind and don't be afraid to order it spicy. It is yummy... They offer a lot of different fruits and fruit salads in the breakfast buffet that made for a great start to my many days there.

It was a bit odd to end up at the entrance trying to find the lobby to check-in without anybody around when I arrived around 3am. Eventually, I found an employee who told me to take the elevators to the fourth floor. (What I thought was a sparse lobby desk turned out to be the concierge). The staff is very attentive, so attentive that I was a bit annoyed at first, and the deference felt a bit over the top early on, but overall they were warm, helpful and friendly.

By the end of Feb 2012, they were still not done with some of the upper floors. I woke up with the noise of hammers and drills on my first Saturday morning. Fortunately, that was also the last day construction noise reached my room, so I cannot complain too much.

Cleaning crew is not bad, but they don't try that hard to clean every nook and cranny in the room. Not that I checked, but the light of the night lamp under the dresser reflects off the marble floor and makes any dust and hair quite visible. (Just to get all the bad news out: internet access cost extra.) There are some cracks here and there, but overall the rooms are very good looking and they have a very interesting layout with an open bathroom. If you don't like it, you can slide two tall wooden panels to separate the bathroom area from the rest of the room.

There are very few buildings in Chennai as tall as the hotel, so the view extends far and away, especially if you get a room on the upper floors.

I will most likely stay here again if I come back to Chennai.

It appears plush if a bit modern and clinical, the staff are extrremly friendly and keen to help, and the restuarants seem nice. THe rooms are really nicely deigned and laid out.

But we checked out after 2 nights (we were going to check out after one but gave them a chance to change our rooms.

There are build quality issues here. There is a pervading smell of damp on some landings and in some rooms. There are signs of water damage on some walls. The permanent smell was sufficient to make us uncomfortable and cause us to move to hotels (we went to the Raintree Anna Salis which was really nice although not 5 star).

We told the hotel of our reasons for leaving let's see if they come back to us... if they do I'll re-review.

I stayed for one night - checked in at 11pm and checked out at 4:30am. Within this period of less than 6 hours, it was apparent that this hotel is not ready for guests.

* There was very poor mobile network in the hotel - for a business hotel, this is very surprising. They told me that they were aware of the problem - I think they should inform business travelers of this at the time of making the booking, at a minimum

* I set up a wake up call for 4:15am and there was no call!

* For a new hotel, several things were already falling apart - the curtains didn't open, the kettle was not working, etc.

* The hallways are very narrow. The rooms are very small with a lot of wasted space. In particular, the bathroom was freezing cold, even when I set up the temperature to 26C and the floor was also freezing

* The sheets and blankets were very poor quality

Room Tip: Make sure the rooms that you take are on the atrium and not in one of the narrow hallways.

very unlike other hyatt group hotels.extremely cold and rude staff and rooms filled with mosquitos.not at all worth the hyatt tag or price.we had asked for early check even though rooms were available they charged us extra for early check in.i asked them to check in our luggage while we had dinner they kept delegating work to som1 else.wen u stay at hyatt u expect somthin extra than lower star hotel would provide but we found service and staff very unaccomodating.our room was filled with mosquitos.wudnt recommend this particular hyatt to anyone.
