Over the years Saravana has detoriated. It used to be palatable and mildly spiced but then over the years they have lost standardization and most of their dishes have gotten more hot/spicy. The so called Chetinad dish which is the right mix of various spices has lost its mileage in hotels like Saravana bhavan. Again -- it depends on which one you go to-- the mylapore location is better managed.

We had Gurati Thali in Rangoli Restaurant which is in the basement of Saravana Bhavan, Pondy Bazzar, Chennai. Travellers to Chennai looking for good North Indian food which is value for money should try this place out. A thali costs about Rs 250. The food is very well prepared and the starters are excellent.
