A splendid and memorable experience!

Review of Savista Retreat
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Jan 2024
Savista is indeed a retreat! I spent a week here and it was hard to say goodbye to Bhanwar, the owner and his charming, devoted staff. My rooms were beautiful and stylish, each farm to table meal was thoughtfully prepared, divine and fresh salad from the garden! The water is drinkable..yes, a rare treat. There is a splendid library, a gorgeous yoga gathering hall, gardens and fields to amble about, many birds and delightful conversations awaiting with Bhanwar who is an extremely gracious and charming host with an extensive knowledge of his country, past, present and future. I cannot recommend Savista highly enough if you want to escape the frenzy and chaos of Jaipur traffic. It is a short drive to Bagru so perfect for seeing the block printing village and taking workshops there.

Thank you for detailing your impressions of all that Savista has to offer to its guests. It is a rare blessing when there is a guest who is in perfect harmony with what Savista is and what we offer. That this fit happened between you and Savista is a matter of immense value. Your own contribution in this regard was significant, for which we cannot thank you enough.

We had a great stay at Savista. It's off the beaten path and surrounding by fields in a rural setting. It was nice to be able to visit Jaipur but then return to peace and quiet. Food was basic but delicious and staff was attentive. Highly recommend it.

Room tip: Make sure to rent a car with a driver as the property is out of town.

It was a pleasure having you and your family staying with us at a time when we were in the midst of a very busy week with a group booking. That we were able to meet your expectations is a matter of great satisfaction for us.

Yes, it's a beautiful place. The staff are lovely. The food was OK And it's "tranquil". And yet... you need to be looking for something very specific if you are going to enjoy a stay here:

- If you are looking for a place that your Taxi driver can't find - tick. The hotel eventually had to send someone out to guide us in.
- If you are looking for a long drive down dirt track roads - tick.
- If you are looking for a place where you won't be able to call a taxi/uber - tick.
- If you are looking for a place that only has one car to service all the guests - tick.
- If you are looking for a place with VERY limited WiFi - tick.
- If you don't want to have to choose your meals - tick.

We didn't venture into the pool, because there's no filter system, but it looked nice. We were able to survive a few days here, because we had come to visit someone in Jaipur, who collected us each morning and dropped us off each evening. But, eventually, the impracticality of the hotel, caused us to bail - and relocate to the Marriot - which is actually cheaper than Savista.

So, in conclusion, you need to be a special kind of person, to fully appreciate Savista. I am not saying that Savista is a bad place to stay, but for many, the inconveniances will far outwiegh the plus points. On our final day, we were the only guests, so it's clearly very niche.

Sadly, your review reflects a certain sense of disappointment and frustration about your choice of Savista for your stay.

However, the basis for this frustration does not rest with either what we are as a property, nor with our location. It springs, instead, from a situation of your own making. And, in all fairness, your review ought to have disclosed this principal fact. The unpleasant task of pointing that out has now unfortunately fallen to us.

Sir, you were accompanying your daughter, who travelled to Jaipur on a business trip to procure supplies for her work. It was she who chose to book with us, with the express view that the kind of estate stay that Savista offers, including our food and the possibility of taking a cooking class, would keep you in a relaxed state even while she busied herself with her procurement work.

However, two things happened subsequently. For One. Perhaps unknown earlier to your daughter, her preferred supplier was located some 50 kms from Savista. And, for whatever reason, you decided to depend on this supplier to fetch both of you and drop you back every single day. This basically meant that he had to first travel 50 kms to come to you and then take you to his supply depot, and then in the evening drop you back and travel back home himself: a distance of around 200 kms every day, plus extra miles to ferry you to wherever else he and you visited. Obviously, this must have been irksome to all involved, including you who decided to accompany your daughter on these trips every day. All this travel and the long days that it involved could not have been easy on any of you, and particularly for you at your age.. So much so that while conceding to some of the plus points of the property, you chose to ignore some of the above crucial factors.

Further, sir, we are not an inaccessible property. It so happened that during your stay, some temporary road repair work was launched by the government on the principal country road that connects us to the highway, and that necessitated your having to take an alternate route. It was precisely for this reason that we chose to send our own car to navigate you on the day that you arrived. Soon after you left, the repair work came to an end and we now have a restored regular link with the highway that is in ship-shape condition. Further, we could have provided you with any number of taxis - as we do for all our guests, as other reviews on this site confirm - and indeed we did offer you one at a very reasonable price. But you chose to decline the offer.

Lastly, on the meal option. Your daughter had opted for an inclusive price of room and a preset menu for a certain number of dishes which, you would concede, varied with each meal that you were served. We concede that the internet service can at times be erratic. We are taking steps to improve it.

In sum, we are truly very sorry that your stay did not work out well for you. But the reasons for it were different from the ones you have listed in your review, and we have little to be blamed for.

My sister and I just stayed three nights at the hidden gem that is Savista Retreat. It was such an amazing few days! Particularly how lovely all the staff were, they really touched us with how sincere and kind they are. 🥰 Savista is a drive from Jaipur, and we did a daytrip in one day, chose to visit the block printer in a nearby village another day, and also fed the orphan cows in the village. We really appreciated the peaceful surroundings and of course incredible food!! It was some of the most delicious, homestyle food of our trip. Plus, we were so surprised that you can brush your teeth and drink the water at the property. I’m already hoping to return. It was unforgettable.

Room tip: You can safely drink the water at Savista Retreat

Thank you for choosing to stay with us along with your sister on your visit to Jaipur, and to celebrate your sister's birthday at Savista. We would like you to know how much we enjoyed having you with us - your conversations with individual members of the Savista team, your enthusiastic participation in all that we were offering, and the fabulous photos that you clicked while you were here. We also greatly enjoyed being part of the birthday cake-cutting ceremony. You have left us with fond memories of you both, and we hope very much that you will return to Savsta some day. All the very best, and have a great life.

So you come to Savista to relax, listen to the birdsong, eat the most delicious food and immerse yourself in the Rajasthani countryside. The staff will take care of your every need but if you need to escape for a few hours then a variety of excursions can be booked. We went on a very pleasant camel cart ride around the local village, calling in at a local farm for tea and snacks plus a visit to the cow orphanage.
Now do not come to Savista if you require minibars, high speed reliable Internet, 24 hour room service and all the trappings of a luxury hotel. You are staying in a much loved family home so grab a book and chill in a hammock or relax by the pool. Time to breathe.......
Thank you Savista, and a big thank you to the delightful staff and owners, you were exactly what was required after a manic Golden Triangle tour!

Thank you for taking the time to post this review, even while you were trying to recover from your hectic first-time visit to India and the huge sensory overload that that involves! We particularly appreciate your lucid and accurate portrayal of the property and, in that process, for authenticating all that we offer to our guests. Such genuine authentications, by travellers such as yourselves who come to new cultural encounters with open minds and hearts, make all the difference, and we would like you to know how much we appreciate your feedback. We would also like you to know that your interactions with the team at Savista were felt by all to be energising and encouraging, and we are very grateful to you for this. You were wonderful guests, and we look forward to hosting you again some time in the future.

We stayed at Savista Retreat, Jaipur with a team of 20 people for an eyecare camp in February 2023.
What an amazing experience from the minute we entered the grounds of the property. It is stunning and all the rooms are beautiful with all the necessary amenities.
The staff was very helpful and very accommodating with all our needs especially being such a large group.
The food was wonderful…we had delicious breakfasts and dinners with differing varieties each day.
We could not have asked for anything better especially after our long work days!!
Thank you to Savista Retreat and their staff for making our stay so wonderful. We will definitely be back again:)

Yours was our first experience of hosting a team of eye doctors from Canada participating in an eye camp for the under-privileged, in the villages within the radius of 50 kms of Savista. It was a privilege to have all of you with us, and to lend our support to your laudable efforts. Thank you all, and our best wishes to you in your work. We would love to have you and your colleagues back with us some day in the not-too-distant future
