The General's Retreat is a calm and beautiful oasis, set amongst a manicured lawn and pretty garden area, just off a main road in a great part of Jaipur. Run by the lovely Mr Bist and his daughter Kiki, as well as their delightful staff - Surendra and others - this is a lovely place to stay. Conveniently located close to all the best textile stores (Anokhi - must eat at their cafe!!, Rasa, Ratan, Cottons etc), and a short rickshaw ride from the old town, the bazaars and all the sights. The guesthouse also has access to a wonderful driver - Ravi - and a very comfortable vehicle - perfect for trips out to the Amber Fort etc. Breakfast on the sunny terrace is also a lovely start to each morning. I highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 11 - based on a recommendation from the 'Love Jaipur' guidebook. A lovely, spacious room downstairs with big bathroom. Most of the upstairs rooms seemed lovely as well though, and had more natural light.

Stayed here with our six year old for several days over Diwali and really can't have asked for more. We were welcomed as guests and invited to take part in the Diwali festivities - my son in particular loved this. Food was very good indeed - really nice and breakfasts were also excellent.

Very comfortable room and, spotlessly clean, we felt very much at home here. The garden was lovely and all the staff made a real effort to make us happy.

A messed up reservation for the final night (my error, not their's) was handled very well with us being provided with an alternative room for the night as the main house was fully booked.

Highly recommended.

As soon as you step foot on the grounds, even though you can hear the cars passing out front, you feel as if you've entered an oasis where you can smell the fresh flowers, hear the birds chirping, and feel the cool breeze. We stayed here for three or four nights while we explored Jaipur and the family who runs the establishment made us feel at home, offering shopping suggestions and basically satisfying our every request. I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Jaipur. With so many options to choose from its hard to find a diamond but, this is one.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are amazing and rear facing. You can't go wrong.

-The guest house is a relative haven-a home away from home, as I often told the family who ran it with extreme efficiency,
discretion, and hospitality. The service was always excellant, the rooms cleaned regularly, the food freshly cooked and in abundance-personally I would have liked
a bit of variey in the menu for dessert!Once tried another guest house, but packed my bags early, next morning, to return to 'General's Retreat'.

Booking & Pickup: We made the booking over email, and arranged to be picked up in a taxi from the Rajdhani for Delhi. For some reason we couldn’t make the advance payment from my Citibank (INR) account, so we had to try again using a different card. Ketaki SMS’d the cab details to us and the driver found us on the platform.
Rooms: One of the rooms had a water leak (it rained heavily one night), but both were tastefully decorated, had a lot of natural light, and the beds were soft enough. The bathrooms were large and there was some sort of eco-friendly water heating system. The walls of the guest house area are lined with historical pictures and documents related to the family. There were only a couple other guests while we were there, but it was the off-season. The wi-fi worked about 50% of the time. There were self-service safe boxes in the rooms, which were big enough to hold laptops.
Food: The food was expensive but convenient. We had a variety of north Indian dishes for dinner one night—I’m not sure if they could have made Rajasthani food, but we didn’t think to ask. The dining area was quaint.
Arrangements: They ordered a taxi for us when we needed it, and gave us recommendations of how to spend our time in Jaipur.
Location: Walking distance to Anokhi (lovely place for breakfast) and pretty close to the old city by car.

Room Tip: We got one single and one double room, but there wasn't a difference in size.
