I stayed at Umaid Bhawan during the off-season period and it was full of tourists, both Indian and foreigners, a strong indicator of the popularity of the property. The rooms are well maintained, clean and with all the amenities working (except that the hot water took some time to reach the shower and taps). It is a heritage building with modern facilities. Very prompt service and helpful front desk. The restaurant serves some nice Rajathani dishes and the complimentary breakfast is sumptuous. I will definitely stay here if I visit Jaipur again

This is a great hotel - its decorated very nicely, has a nice rooftop restaurant, and great service. The room my sister, mother and I stayed in was absolutely lovely. It was huge, with a lounge area. Due to some bad luck, we arranged very late at the hotel - right when the kitchen closed. The staff was gracious enough to make us dinner last minute, which was greatly appreciated.

Our last night here we had dinner at the rooftop terrace - the food was ok, but during dinner traditional Rajastani dancers perform which was a real treat.

Unfortunately, we could only stay one night here - we had to book another night at the Royal Orchid. I'm not sure why the Royal Orchid is rated higher than the Umaid Bhawan - at least with the Umaid Bhawan the wi-fi is free, and the atmosphere cannot be beat.

Certainly a beautiful hotel that is well situated in a residential area - but the noise of dogs barking and people shouting is still a pain!
Perhaps the downside is that the staff sleep on the floor in the reception area. Why don't they have aplace to relax or somewhere that is a little more private than the floor of the reception. Secondly, the hotel has a strange policy of making guests leave the key to the rooms IF THEY WANT THE ROOM CLEANED! If you do ot read the notice board and see the sign on the board (placed well behind a pillar) - and nobody will tell you personally - then your room will not be cleaned. Despite telling the reception at 4pm that my room still hadn't been cleaned I had to make a formal complaint at least three hours after. The room boys were shouted at and told off - but it was really the job of the reception staff and the manager. This should be sorted out in a better way rather than running through the hotel ranting and raving.
Food at breakfast is rather limited and pretty poor.
