“The Resort at Madh - Marve”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2013

The Resort is situated on Aksa beach . It is a well maintained property which abounds in greenery.
The main building is old and needs a fresh coat of paint but the interiors are beautifully done and the rooms are lovely with a great view . We had adjoining rooms which we found quite
comfortable . The bathrooms were nice but the equipment seemed dated with no spray jet.
There was wide variety of food in the buffet , the breakfast buffet was fantastic .

We had a great time lazing around in the hammock and swimming pool , taking long walks on the beach .The beach was the prime location for enjoying the sunset . We had lots of fun playing table tennis , foosball and billiards ( Had to pay Rs 335 for half an hour for the latter , the management should make all the facilities available for free for the residents. )

The approach road from Malad to INS Hamla is horrible and we spent nearly 35 minutes both ways . Hopefully the road repair work will be completed in the next couple of weeks .

We would definitely revisit .

Room Tip: Take the sea facing rooms .

It has been around for considerably long time so now it needs a makeover. The fittings and furnishings are outdated and worn. But you actually do not not mind this state of things, only, and only because of the view. The service is poor and borders on rudeness. The staff cannot even smile either because they are unhappy employees or they have settled in their secure jobs and do not care about Courtesy and Care. Food is mostly buffet and has a big spread but not always up to mark. It was stale and old at times. Certainly not acceptable. We had a room on the 6th floor facing the ocean and it made up for everything that was missing. The spa and salon staff had a totally 'dont care' attitude which made you feel totally unwelcome. But the spa is well maintained and clean.
Service with a smile is a motto this hotel does not understand. The location of the hotel is good but the food carts outside on the beach are an eyesore and make the beach filthy. The number of crows near the pool and in trees there is perhaps the result of the trash outside. They distract you with their constant cawing. And dead fish droppings on your balconies can be a deterrent to sit out. Its such a pity that with this location on the beach and accessible proximity to the city this hotel has failed to live up to the hospitality industry tradition.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean facing rooms on higher floors. Thats the best part of staying here.

I have stayed 1 night at the Resort. 12 April 2013. The traffic to the hotel was terrible. Very far and also far from other places. Everything in the hotel is very costly. The bathtub is stained and very old. We stayed in room #502. The room is not small, but the bathroom is old.

I made call to my Indian friends. 3 calls, 6-7 minutes in total, it cost me 400Rs. I was shocked when I checked out and saw the bill.

Though the staff was all nice, but in my opinion, if you want to enjoy Mumbai, and don't want to be this isolated, better pick other hotel. The hotel is very far and traffic jam all the time.

The beach at the hotel, not recommended to swim. It is too hot to walk during daytime. Also it was very windy till we should stay inside the hotel and skip all outdoor activities. But again, everything is costly, we then just watch TV and hire expensive rickshaw to go outside. (Expensive since it is very very far from other attractions)

And breakfast buffet is to serve Indian people only.

I will not go back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: It is all old decoration, so no difference.

Peaceful and natural ambiance. Located in a silent zone near the sea. Rooms facing the sea gives you a relaxed environment after the stressful day. The journey to the location may not be that good but the stay will be enjoyable. Be ready to smell fishy some time!!!

Room Tip: Rooms on 2nd floor facing the sea and close to the swimming pool

Dear Sir,

It was indeed our pleasure to have you stay with us and to be of service to you.

I am glad to note that you have peaceful & relaxed environment also happy to note that The Resort provided you with every bit of relaxation that you were looking forward to after a stressful day mainly the journey to the hotel.

As you are aware, having come to us earlier for business conference also The Resort does not has a problem of fish smell as Aksa beach in front of the hotel is not used by the local fisher folk for the same, however, being a costal location does mean that the change in wind patterns carry fish smell from close by beaches such as the Erangal shoreline.

We would love to have the pleasure of seeing you as a regular guest and look forward to your next visit and wish you the best in your personal endeavors.

Should you require any assistance in future, kindly do not hesitate to contact us on sales@theresortmumbai.com

Why Average?
Because...
- The check-in takes forever. Despite having a main checkin table in the reception, you still have to wait for over 15 minutes for the cashier in the corner to get free. I still haven't understood why the Hotel has this large Table if everyone is directed to the corner for all checkins and checkouts.
- The staff is indifferent. No one offered to take us to our rooms which are really far from the reception (different buildings). We had to go back to the security from the reception, identify our luggage and find our rooms all by ourselves. However, the restaurant staff at the buffet merits a mention because they were extremely prompt, very patient (with groups that had loads of kids and insisted that the staff serve them food from the buffet table so that they did not have to walk) and courteous.
- The quality of food at the buffet, both breakfast and dinner was average. Not a single dish that is worth a mention. The surprising element was the live counter at the dinner buffet was chapatis. After having Naan, parathas, and rice on the buffet what was the logic of fresh chapatis? Why not a live pasta or a khowsuey counter to give it a variation?
- a lovely pool but you have women who sit at the edge and dip their feet in or get into the pool with Tees on and fight with the staff who request them not to do so. The Hotel needs to have a strict policy regarding the pool. This place is wonderful when the hordes of local families do not crowd it and fight for hammocks, swings and seats by reserving it with bags, towels etc. Makes you wonder if you've entered a second class compartment of the local trains.
- the bar that is not segregated from the rest of the restaurant where the buffet is being served. Would have been nicer if you weren't subjected to howling kids and screaming women while trying to relax.
- Constantly under renovation so you have plastic sheets on carpets in the corridors and a musty odor in some of the rooms.

Advantages
- Great location and a wonderful place for a break from the city. It is close to Mumbai yet feels like being in another place altogether.
- Wonderful view if you reserve a sea facing room. You also get a balcony which is not available in the city facing rooms.
- The staff at the restaurant and the pool are very helpful. and the security guy at the gate to the beach.

Suggestions
- Avoid checking in on public holidays and long weekends because that is when the crowds descent and turn the place into a mess. Weekdays, the place is quiet and the only people around are those attending one of the many conferences there. So the pool, lawns, spa and even the beach is empty.
-You have no alternatives to the expensive, average food as there is no decent restaurant around where you can walk over to and grab a bite. The closest one is Bageecha which is also pretty boring.
- Carry a book because reading while lying in the hammocks at the poolside is almost therapeutic, like another world(if you do on a day when the Hotel is relatively empty). The sound of the waves punctuated by the cry of the kites, the shade of the trees and the breeze is the best part of this place

Room Tip: Insist on a sea facing room. You have the view and the extra balcony space. Also stay away from thos...
