“Gorai beach - A day picnic on the beach”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2012

Gorai is about 40 km from Thane. Gorai is also accessible by ferry from Mumbai.

Gorai beach has brownish wet sand. The entrance to the beach is a very narrow path and don't be surprised if your car is stuck midway - there is hardly space for 2 cars to pass at the same time. It was picnic time for lots of families visiting the beach. Most of them , like us had come up with packed lunches and had spread their mats and 'chaddars' and gossiped, ate and watched the belongings while some of their folks enjoyed the waves.

Though Gorai doesn't have any of your water scooters, speed boats or other water sports; it does have your traditional 'Ghoda-gaadi' or you can jump up a horse for a short trot along the beach.
It's a relatively clean beach, though not that scenic. Coconut trees line the beach and there are villas and inns surrounding them. At the beach, you will get everything from the basic cricket accessories like a bat and a ball to shorts for those who forgot they were coming to the beach to boiled 'chana' to pink , yellow and orange 'mhaatariche kes' to 'chai' to 'taadi' to coconut water, to sweet 'taal gud'. Why, I even saw a woman selling vegetables???

“Enchanting Gorai”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2012

It was just an impulsive urge to drive and i checked out the route for Gorai. I decided to take the Western Express Way all the way to Mira Road and then take the Uttan Road to Gorai. I was very glad to make that decision. As I touched the Uttan road, I felt as if I was driving in Goa - 2 lane well-maintained roads, with greenery on both sides. On some stretches, you will find the backwater on the road-side.

Drive the car right upto the beach - it is great fun.

Koli village: To the left end of the beach, there is the fishermen village. It is a nice place to watch them bring in the fresh catch and sort it out. Also, if you want some fresh sea-food, you will get a very nice deal here - I saw some great big prawns at attractive prices as low as Rs.400 per kilo.

Water line drive: this is one beach where i saw that you can drive your vehicle on the beach, on the waves. people race their cars and bikes over the water, splashing and spraying it everywhere. And the beach is a long one, so you will find space for your own drive too.

Clean beach: it is was amazing to find the beach so clean. The air was smelling fresh. There was no washed up or heaped garbage dumps. Much of it can be attributed to the fact that there were few hawkers.

Beach-side bungalows and resort: This is where i felt i was in Palolem, South Goa. The entire Gorai beach side is lined by resorts and inns, with very affordable rooms and all serving fresh sea-food as the speciality.

Sunset - be there to at least watch the sunset. I caught a stunning sunset, of course with this time of the year, the sky is very clear.

Just one watchout - if you are a family, try to avoid the rocky embankment along the beach. it is frequented by couples and they get really amorous.

“Distant Location - Clean Beach”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2011

This beach is located at the nothern end of Mumbai and one will have to take a ferry to reach this place. There is an alternate route to drive down but the same will be a long tiring journey so would recommend the ferry to anyone wanting to visit this place. Once u cross over by ferry u can hire tuk tuk's or a horse carriage to take you to the beach. We tried the hirse carriage and it was quite an experience. The beach iteself is very clean and and is not very crowded. A good place to visit if you want to avoid the crowd. A word of caution ... I didnot see any life guards on the beach so enter the water at your own risk.

“A good beach in the suburbs...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2008

Gorai beach is a ferry-ride away from Marve beach(Malad West) or Gorai creek (Borivali West), at about 4 kilometres away, and is located to the north of Mumbai. There are ferries run by the BEST. You can take a ferry from the Gorai creek, Borivli West and go to the beach. The Gorai beach is very beautiful and so most of the people get attracted. The beach is completely isolated and exotic. People can be seen everyday in thousands.
Other added fascinations situated close to Gorai beach are The Water Kingdom and Esselworld that can be a part of your excursion to Gorai beach. These spots are perfect for all age groups and can easily qualify for an adventurous trip. To get across to the park one can hire ferries for a nominal fare. Gorai beach is engulfed by villas, and touches outskirts of the nearby fishing village.
From Malad and Borivali suburban railway stations, a 20 minute drive on buses or autorickshaws take you to Marve beach. From here, you get a 15-minute ferry ride to Gorai beach.
carry Comfortable clothes to keep you away from heat, pleasant beachwear, hats, sun tan lotion, games, etc. The sunrises and sunsets here are enchanced by the hill ranges that frame the beach. Marve is the closest and quietest. This lovely fishing village has beautiful bunglows and wide clean beaches.
