In a single line this place is the lungs of suburban Mumbai. It is best at rainy season. However, all over the year it is beautiful. Most wonderful attractions are:
1. Vanrani - A narrow gauge joyful toy train ride
2. Tiger and Lion Safari
3. Kanheri caves
4. Jain temple
Also there are several public walking trails in the park which are the another attraction for lots of visitors.
Boating in the lake & children park - another two gift for the children also.

A small forest area situated within the only surviving green lung in the city - you will get to see wildlife (lions, tigers etc). For those in the city, this is a good place to relax on a short break. For those who've been to the real wilderness, this isn't your cup of tea - only because the animals aren't truly free (fenced boundaries separate the animals).

Do I really need to review. The title says it all. SGNP is the "lungs" of the city.

A park this size in a crowded city like Mumbai is absolute heaven. If you are expecting a national Park on the scale of Kaziranga this would be a disappointment.. My love for national grew once i moved to Kandivali (10 mins away) from the park entrance. I was then practicing for the Half marathon, and the long quiet roads came in handy. The park is a great place for a family picnic. A tiger & lion safari. A boating option. They even have Kanheri caves situated around 7 km inside. There are also a few trails (Silonda Trail), which are best explored during the monsoon, when stream are flowing. THere is a fnatastic trek, starting from Kanheri cave, which takes you to the tallest point of Bombay. From here one can see the 3 lakes that keep the city running. It is quite a nice trek taking around 90 miutes one way.

As far as wildlife is concerned, one can see countless monkeys, the langur (black faced monkeys). If lucky you can see a herd of deer too grazing in the wild. There are panthers too, but they're way inside the park. Snakes too can be spotted in numbers.

National park is a great place for a Sunday visit if you're from the city or from outside. if visited during the monsoon, it could be the highlight of your Bombay visit.

i was lucky to meet a local guide who lives in the park. We took his car with his two children. Of course i had to pay but it's always good idea to have a local guide when you visit a place you don't know anything about.
You can go for cave tour or safari. Go before 5pm, or the park will be closed.
