Owner description: India's most beautiful railway station is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with stained-glass windows, towering spires, domed arches and buttresses and pillars with animal images carved into them.
Reviewed 2 July 2012

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is a place full of commuters travelling in and out of Mumbai and the suburbs. It is the place reminiscent of British India and its architecture, with the government / administration offices operating out of them. The air is mostly pure coming from the sea and open expanses. Mcdonald cafe nearby and the roadside eateries, stalls, fast food, cane juice, roadside cloth stalls and electronics shops selling imported and specialised goods is the attraction around. The GPO. Mumbai Municipality office, Courts, Times of India building around the CST Terminus gives this area a different ambience. Generally a clean area. Alight here for Gateway of India, Churchgate station, Stock Market, Jehangir Art Gallery, Cricket Grounds and such attractions.

The hustle and bustle when you finally arrive after a 7 hour delay (yes, trains to Mumbai are often delayed!) means it's so easy to miss looking around you at just how amazing this building is.

I returned when it was dark, just for a look. The outside was floodlit and looked amazing.

Inside, it was just as busy as during the day - people waiting for trains, people boarding and disembarking, drug addicts 'sleeping'
Then I looked around me and saw just what a beautiful building stood all around me.

Visited the terminus after over two decades. What a marked difference. Clean! Of course, not as clean as in some terminals in Hollywood movies (unless those are doctored!). Nothing else to really talk about. As much a terminus as at Howrah!

Well such a nice airport and lot more to come up ...... one has lot of expectation from international tourists aspect but the jhuggis seen while landing or take off is such a bad site ......... it really potrays a wrong image of emerging global power ...... They should be taken away from the airport and given location covered with heavy greens

This is a classic gothic-colonial structure from the days of the British raj, a stupendous piece of late 19th century architecture; really ornate and complicated but unfortunately the poorly maintained exterior is a typical indictment of Mumbai's civic body's sheer negligence in maintaining any of our city's incredible heritage! Still, well worth a walk-past and a peep inside at the throngs of humanity that travel on our rail system!
