Must see place whilst travelling around Mumbai. Stop over for a few pictures outside the iconic Taj Mahal hotel.
Visit collaba and surrounding areas. Stop over famous bedi meia kebab hut, for a bite.
Visit the surrounding area of the Taj hotel, maybe have high tea.

A must visit for any tourist who comes to Mumbai or every Mumbaikars who should atleast come here once in a year to enjoy the Architectural wonder and a historical marvel on the other. Gateway of India with the scenic Arabian Sea bordering from all sides creates a perfect setting for a leisurely escape in Mumbai.

The monument was erected not for the Indians but was built to stamp the supremacy of the Dynasty and commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Maryat Apollo Bunder on their visit to India in 1911. The arch alone was built at the cost of 21 lakhs.

It was arrival deck for innumerable visitors from the west. Ironically, when the sun set on the Dynasty and the British raj ended in 1947, this colonial symbol also became a sort of epitaph: the last of the British ships that set sail for England left from the Gateway.

Today this symbol of colonialism has got Indianised, drawing droves of local tourists and citizens. This landmark of Mumbai is a must visit of the city. If the bricks could speak and tell it tales it would pop up the real truth which the history books do not portray. The 100+ photographers who throng the remains to earn a living are the gladiators who could probably imprint some realisation on minds of people. They gift memories eveloped with 100+ years history along with printed photo a memoir every tourist takes back home.

You can easily join the crowds here, perhaps on your way to Elephanta Island. Maybe there are times of the day when it's quiet, but those are probably between 2 and 6 am.

I went there with my friends twice. Once for sightseeing and another time to take a break from our everyday hurried life.
Best thing is it's walking distance from Colaba market, so you can multitask while going there. The ferry ride is an amazing experience. Helps you relax like nothing else. Personally,I think the best time to go there is in the evening. Make sure you reach right before sunset. The ferry ride offers best view at that hour.
