Plan was to explore south Bombay and its many delights. I chose a public holiday, so I could use the Mumbai suburban rail system (local trains) which are the cheapest and fastest way of getting around. Got off at Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (a landmark in itself) and walked down first DN Road and MG Road to get to the sea. The walk took about an hour stopping and taking pictures with the smell of the sea acting as a guide as you get closer.

The monument is worth a stop, i would have loved to get a late evening or night view. Place is busy with hawkers and plenty of local tourists.

Tips:
1. If you are new to Mumbai please dont try out the local trains on a weekday at peak times.
2. Cover Marine Drive as well if you have come this far.
3. The Taj Mahal Hotel is just opposite, very unique building as well and home to Wasabi .. the crème of Japanese restaurants in India.

“Must see”

According to our dear Mr. Sheth, this is one of the must sees of Mumbai. Certainly picturesque as it is across from the Taj Hotel which has been lovingly restored after the terrorist attacks.

“Beautiful art piece”

Too crowded and the photographers is disturbing although the price for a picture taken and printed on the spot is decent.

“Remnants of a lost empire.”

Built by the British to commemorate the visit of the King in 1911, the monument is impressive. Due to security restrictions, you can only get near it, but cannot go in.
