Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights back in december. it had a nice lobby, despite being a small hotel, and is well and thoughtfully decorated throughout. The rooms are very large and nicely decorated - not indian - once you close the curtains you could be anywhere. The beds are exceptionally comfortable, helped by the choice of about 10 different types of pillow. The bathroom was a bit strange- not quite to my taste. The seperation from the main room was incomplete - OK for a couple I suppose - but even then...
The gym was way too small and really not user friendly. The really outstanding thing is the swimming pool on the roof of the hotel. In the evening it provides beautiful views of the bay and the queen's necklace.
Would recommend highly.....but it's just not the Taj.

I stayed 3 nights in October at the end of a 4 week tour of Rajasthan. Booked on the Intercontinental web-site so saved myself a significant amount. The airport pick-up was well worth the money, especially as other guests had had taxi drivers who weren't sure where the hotel was. I arrived dusty, with a back-pack and no-one batted an eyelid. Very attentive service - almost too much so - one individual to check me in in my room, one person to give me my welcome drink, another my internet access number and another to discuss my choice of pillow and duvet. Excellent roof-top infinity pool with lovely views - but remember your sun-screen as there's little cover. Sleek, boutique feel. I'm about to go back to Mumbai, this time on business, and would definitely stay here.

Firstly, South Mumbai, is a revelation in comparison to a lot of the other parts of mumbai. Rickshaws are not allowed which makes a huge difference, less congestion, cleaner air, it was lovely. Marine drive is fantastic, a great place for a stroll, superb at night and loads of lovely restaurants and cofee places a stone throw as well. Oh and a great cinema, the INOX, just passed the air india building as well as the Atrium shopping mall, the ladies will love a shop there called Bling my wife did!

Now the hotel, WOW, customer service, superb!

The lobby smallish, the front desk super helpful, the rooms huge, so gadgety, from the touch sensitive lights, to the entry pen to get in the rooms (dont lose it, you pay 750 rupees to replace it) the electric blinds, the bathroom is all glass but the blinds cover up if you like. The shower is awesome super power shower, the bed is amazing, you can choose different types of duvets, your choice of pillows, aromatherapy oils which got rid of my head ache, excellent TV, very interactive, huge screen, your own DVD player, pringles in the mini bar, internet is ok priced, could be cheaper, but then for the type of hotel it is surprised? Not really...

We got an excellent deal from the intercontinental site, room only, amazingly it worked out cheaper to get room only and pay for your brekie and my 1 transfer seperately since the all in rate was so so much more!

Unanimously this is one of the best hotels that i've ever stayed in, i'd paud a visit to the JW and as grand as that was, it was way to busy in there and the rooms were tiny, the intercontinental blew it away, RULES!!!

This is an outstanding luxury hotel with beautiful views of the Arabian Sea. We stayed at the Taj Mahal Palace (Heritage) in 2004 and greatly enjoyed our stay, but the price had risen so much in the past two years (globalization, anyone?) that we had to look elsewhere for our 2006 trip to Mumbai.

A tip -- The Intercontinental Marine Drive hotel has great deals if you pay in advance on their website.

The rooms are ultra modern, spacious, and exceptionally comfortable. The service is outstanding. Others have already mentioned the complimentary massage which is such a treat.

It's perfect for a business traveler and it's great for tourists. If you have the small Lonely Planet Mumbai guide, you can get around quite easily. The only drawback regarding the location is that I found myself near the Taj several times over the week. That said, a short, 100 rupee cab ride from our hotel to the shops near the Taj was well-worth it due to the cost difference between the two hotels.

I ate at all the hotel restaurants and they were too upscale for me preference. However, if you burn out on Indian food, do eat at the Italian restaurant, Coreleone. It was very similar to the famous, Indigo and much, much better in my opinion (go to Indigo for drinks only). The Dome is a nice place to have evening cocktails. Czar Bar is where the young and super rich Mumbai youth go on Friday night to get their groove on as they have a live DJ. The cover charge was astronomical by Indian standards (I think I heard 1500 Rs), but free for guests of the hotel.

I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

This was a very nice hotel, worth the money, the name, and the rating. I had come from the Intercontinental Grand in Delhi which was just dreadful and was expecting the worst. This hotel could not have been more different from the Delhi hotel. The staff were professional and friendly, the rooms very stylish and clean and the food was good. The hotel is in a good location and has great views of the ocean.

I have stayed twice now. I would return to this hotel without hesitation and recommend it to anyone.
