“Crazy Mumbai”
Reviewed 17 January 2012

I always stay at Anjali Inn on my way in and out of India to do all my shopping before departing home... This is a no-fuss hotel located in a somewhat dark and unpleasant part of Mumbai, but if it is just for a good night sleep at reasonable rates close to the airport, then this is perfect. I have always felt safe here, thus have been coming for a few years in a row now.

However this little guesthouse could do with a 'little' re-vamp. The walls are really not clean, nor in a good condition. The air-con unit in my room is so loud, it is unbearable to keep it on. The hot water cylinder is not working and was quickly replaced by a hot water bucket. The sheets have sure seen some use over time.

Over and above all of it, the staff is great and super helpful. They can order meals in, make tea of coffee, arrange taxi (ask for Mariyappun, he is a super driver and knows Mumbai better than most). It has reliable wi-fi (free) and the airport dropp off and collection which is spot-on (a must in Mumbai). The staff speaks good communicative english.

Pity this hotel is getting a little bit run-down (which might be a shock to some travellers)... I hope it will be better looked after in future to come.

If you are not fussy, then this is a good, very reliable, safe and friendly spot.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be the same... this hotel is really just to sleep in, and do day trips...

Very simple rooms, we booked a deluxe room and a couple friends were in an ordinary room. We weren't sure what the difference was between the two rooms and when we asked the hotel staff they didn't know either. It cost us a comparable amount as it would have to stay in Colaba and we were miles out of town, while I wouldn't begrudge a ride on the Indian rail for the experience there are easier ways to see Mumbai, especially if you're on a tight timeframe.

For the price and the location I don't think this is great value in Mumbai. I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Staff weren't overly helpful on things to do and places to see.

Cafe Marol down the road had some really good eats at very reasonable prices and I'd recommend anyone in the area checking it out.

Room Tip: Don't select deluxe

This place is a very convenient airport stopover, but give it a chance and it's so much more besides.

Admittedly a little far from the main Mumbai drag, you'll undoubtedly enjoy the little adventure into 'town' and the sense of staying in an area where the residents of Mumbai go about their daily lives.

What's more the hostel staff and owner are some of the most genuine, helpful and kind people you could ever wish to meet. The kind of people who really shape a trip to the Indian continent and get you off to a good start, or leave you with happy memories before you fly home. Just ask!

Well worth a visit, for the hospitality as well as the location!

The rooms, although small, are extremely clean and functional. The food is also great. The hotel is very close to both the international and domestic airports in Mumbai. It is a short tuk-tuk ride to the nearest train station, where you can pick up a commuter train that will take you right into the city centre.
