“An unusual place near Mysore”
Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed for two nights in all - one night at either end of a nine days trip to North Kerala from Bangalore. The current name of the place is Pegasus Art Bistro (and not Sigrid's Place) although the place is still owned by Mrs Sigrid Benthin. She told us that she intends to sell part of her place soon - so, we can consider ourselves lucky to have sampled the charm of the place before it becomes out of bounds for accomodation purposes. She intends to continue with the restaurant operations though.

A few points make the property quite unique. Firstly, its is a rambling garden with lots of trees and plants and birds and is very peaceful. An early morning walk amidst the vegetation is very refreshing. Secondly, there is an artist's impression everywhere you go. You can enhance your experience by requesting Mrs. Benthin to play good classical European music. Thirdly, the place serves authentic European cuisine with generous servings. Food is well cooked. If you enjoy these aspects, you will love this place.

Accomodation is in two cottages separated by about fifty yards or so from each other. The cottage closer to the dining area has two interconnected rooms which can accomodate upto three people without extra beds. While structurally simple, this cottage
is nicely decorated with lots of paintings drawn by Mrs Benthin's late husband. The cottage further out is smaller and simpler and will accomodate two persons - this one also has paintings on the walls.

Overall, we had a very nice and serene stay.

"Me time"....that's exactly what I was looking for. However, thats not why I picked it, I picked this place because, it was the only place that allowed me to bring my dog. It gave me lot more than I expected.....I got the chance to just chill, connect with people who I never knew, spend time with myself in the midst of lush greens, 3 dogs, 17 rabbits, lovely host and a bunch of awesome helpers....Its only today that I realized, that this place had no TV and I had not missed connecting to the outside world even for a bit....just enjoyed the time with myself.

Nothing fancy, but landed up giving me a lot more than luxury ever could! Would recommend this to anyone.

Sigrid's Place (also known as Pegasus Art Colony) is a charming Home Stay outside of Mysore city. It is surrounded by fields, and has a large garden. There are two en suite guest rooms that are personal and fairly clean. The restaurant serves delicious European food for relatively high prices by Indian standards. You have access to a computer and internet, but this is in need of an upgrade. The owner, Sigrid, is a German lady who is very friendly and will help you make your stay as comfortable as possible. She has a few dogs which are lovely, and the family that runs the restaurant and does maintenance etc. are very nice.

I would recommend Sigrid's Place to anyone in need of some peace and quiet, home cooked organic food and green surroundings. It is probably best to have a car as public transport is limited. It costs about 250 INR for a rickshaw from Mysore City centre.
