If you are looking for peace of mind and place away from usual hush of city, then this is ideal place to be, though you will not have usual luxury of 4 or 5 stars however you will be enthrilled with excellent service and yummy food, This place is located in middle of 4-5 mountains in a middle of valley exactly 13 Kms before shimla, you will have to drive 3 Km down hill from NH 22, the road though is not adequetly formed however all your mental blocks wipe away when you move into this little cosy resort. This place is just beside a smal village called shungal and is absolutely safe. All rooms gives your adequete privacy. The staff is absolutely courteous and so is the owner. Roooms though do not provide absolutely luxury however all the basic needs are catered by absolutely diligent staff. Traditional Indian food is awesome. they will cook menu of your liking if they are not occupied fully. Dont miss the Trek/Jungle walk which their resident proffesional Satish will take you to, The experience is amazing with very carefull approach as the trek might be slippery in Monssons. Reaching on top of hill thru 2 km uphill trek and moving from one hill to another hill top was amazing experience where all the other hills/valley are below your sight, Also not to be missed are small adventure sports which they offer on FOC as they are thrilling. Water/electricity is not an issue. Rooms are maintained cleanly seeing the location. Best part is that you awake early morning with chrping of the birds. Have tea/coffee in garden which give you awesome experience as you sit in middle of geen valley, you can spend hours there without doing anything provided whether is cooperative as it rained quite frequently during our visit which is one more nice experience. At the end I would say that it is a value for money stay in middle of nature and those who love nature and love writing/reading/painting/treakkinng/adventure/peace this place is ideal.

Few other pluses:
1) This location is adequete if you want to be away from hush of city, for change you can visit Shimla which is less then half an hour drive, Chail which is 1 hour drive, Kufri - about 1 hour.
2) You can go for long walks in jungle which is safe.
3) Enjoy Sunset and sun rise from hill top.
4) Delicious food on demand. their speciality is traditional indian food. Their cook might not understand very specific chinese/continental etc but can make anyhing on request.
5) 2-3 night stay is great.

Few points of improvement:
1) Cleanilness can be improved.
2) doors and windows require mandatory adjustments rather then depending upon just chitkinis.

Room Tip: Go for Mud house rather then Bamboo, avoid Tents.

Oakwood Hamlet is one of the most restful places one can go to. It's affordable, comfortable, clean and quiet. In other words this is exactly the kind of place where you would like to go if you're looking for a recharge after a few months of hectic work.
There are three kinds of accommodation options at Oakwood Hamlet - Bamboo Huts, Tents and Mud Cottages. We had chosen to stay at one of the Mud Cottages. It turned out to be a great choice for the room that we were given also had a loft (they call it an attic), where two people can sleep quite comfortably. Indeed the hotel staff thoughtfully provided us with an extra mattress, pillow and a couple of extra blankets. The rooms are clean and cosy and the bathroom (a big consideration for most travellers) is big and very clean. Facilities include hot & cold water (of course), a heater in the room as well as a pedestal fan and an LCD TV with sat-TV connection. The room itself is very big and spacious.
The bamboo huts looked pretty too but we didn't really get a glimpse of the interiors since every room was occupied. The tents, while they looked quite adventurous, would probably be a little dusty. Our recommendation would be that you go for the mud cottage.
We had booked an all inclusive package via www.arounddelhi.com, which included stay for 2N/3D, all meals, bed tea and welcome drink. Do not expect sumptuous meals. The buffets offer basic food but they're quite tasty. Breakfast usually comprises toast, butter and jam, omlette or scrambled eggs, paratha, curd and pickle and tea. Lunch is a veg affair with a choice of veg curries, one dal, rice and chapatis. There is of course salad and pickle. It is topped up with a dessert. For dinner one of the veg dishes is substituted with a non-veg item.
The staff meanwhile is very courteous and are more than happy to help you with whatever requests you may have. Last but not the least, there are even a series of activities that are planned through the day that the adventurous ones might like to try out. If not, you can just lie back on the deck chairs, nestle your beers and read and enjoy the peace of the Himalayan hills.
Overall, it would be enough to say that now that I have been there once I wouldn't mind going there again and again.

Our trip was oraganised by Virgin Travel spots, a delhi based destination management company.I was little apprenhensive about the place but these people (VTS) had thorough knowledge about the place and its arrangement. Its seems to be a new place apt for adventure lovers. Can be used for Ongoing trips for upper shimla and Kinnaur. We had arranged our tour with them (VTS) for Narkanda and up in Lahaul and they manaaged it very proffessionally.I rate Oakwood hamlet a must visit and rate 7 out of 10.A cheap place near Shimla and good food , very hospitable staff.Cheers to my travel agent!!
