“Mixed experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2012

First of all the staff. For the most part they were very friendly except for a bad experience with Mr. Kausmal who proceeded to yell at me and my guest and was generally very rude and grumpy. I complained to the manager Mr. Reymond the next day and he kindly took care of the problem and from that point on I did not have problems with Mr. Kausmal. But it should not have come to that. Apart from him the staff was quite good, especially the cleaning staff who were efficient, kind and smiling. Location: Pahargunj should actually be called Pahar Grunge. Delhi is such a wonderful city but this neighborhood is plain tacky with cheap hotels, touts, and neon. It is a bit of a hike to Connaught Place, at least a 15 minute brisk walk and not a very pleasant one at that. I am a guy, but wondered if it would be a good walk for a single woman. I would venture to say no, especially in the evening. So if you are doing budget you may want to consider a hotel in Karol Bagh - the neighborhood is much more pleasant and there is a metro stop right there. Btw the metro in Delhi is fantastic, goes all over the city, is clean, safe and cheap. Love it. The room was clean, large enough, the lobby nice, so I would say if you don't mind the location and can put up with the grumpiness of some of the staff, it may be worth a go for a few nights. I will probably not return as I have found better options closer to the metro and in a much better neighborhood. And in general if this is your first time in Delhi, better not to stay in this neighborhood as it will affect your overall view of the city. I met people who hated Delhi for this reason as they stayed in this area. South Delhi and Karol Bagh are your best options. Especially South Delhi near a metro stop.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for putting your comments about the Hotel & its services on Tripadvisor. We respect your reviews and apologize for the bad experience you’ve had with Mr.Kaushal. We shall ensure that the ethics of guests is not hurt by yelling at their visitors. We thank you for pointing out that the situation was much better after speaking to me personally. Looking from the safety point of view the management of the Hotel does not allow visitors in the guest’s room after 20:00 hrs. In exceptional cases special permission still can be obtained from the Hotel to allow visitors in the room. Our aim is only to provide maximum comfort to all the guests who enter their rooms in the evening after a long day sight seeing tours etc .. and wish to get a little undisturbed rest.
Coming to the area, we can only say that like every coin has two sides, the area too has its own benefits like the Connaught Place, The Main Train Station are within the walking distance from the Hotel. Harassments & touts are all over Delhi targeting western tourists , it all depends how tactfully they are handled.
We would still want you to be our guest again so that we can help you change your opinion about the Hotel.
With Respect & Regards
Raymond Peter (G.M)

Had a great stay here and the helpfulness of the staff was great. Room was OK, but glass shower wall would of been better if it was higher. Had meal here and it was very good, as was breakfast. Close to the main railway station and good walk (if you feel fit) to Connaught Place.
Would recommend this hotel.

We were first greeted with chilled water which was nice. The lobby was very attractive compared to the Red Fox hotel in Noida from where we came from after a wedding.
My room was 4006, the top floor and my colleague was room 4001 again on the top floor under the kitchen and restaurant. Very noisey as kitchen started work at 7am!
On the last day, I collected belongings and noticed wet patch on the wall of room 4006. There was also bubbling under the paint. During check out I mentioned that this room was damp and me and my 4 year old daughter started getting wheezing and caughing.
Reception staff were not helpful. I referred the conplaint to the Manager sitting in the little office in the foyer. He had to phone the head boss. After all that we didn't get an apology and only 1000rps off the total bill of 30,000 rupees.
Also we were charged for wifi when bookings.com clearly said wifi was free. We had to fight to get that removed from the bill.
Also the credit card machine wasn't working. We tried the Delux and the budget hotel and both machines failed. I phoned my bank and was told I had no problems and that it must be the machine.
Restaurant food was nice and staff in restaurant were nice.

Be warned-avoid rooms on the top floor under the kitchen: 4001 and 4006.
Over priced for the standard of Delux
Good location
Check and double check wifi is free (it should be for the rate of the rooms)

Room Tip: Avoid rooma 4001 and 4006-very noise as they are under the kitchen and restaurant and 4006 is damp

When I get into the hotel I am being surprised by just how nice and modern everything is. Not "for india" but just in general, its nice. Little water on your way in during check in, free wifi wen I go down and ask for it at the front desk and the staff is as nice as you might expect in india. The showers are amazing, the rooms are very clean and trendy. No safes in the rooms but after leaving out a tip for the room service and still finding it on the table when I returned that evening, I'm pretty comfortable saying the staff is trustworthy.

No complaints about this hotel, once we got used to the fact that in India most hotel showers cover the whole room so everything gets wet. It was cold in Delhi, and we had heat. The lobby area and grand staircase were lovely, and the breakfasts on the rooftop were fine. Staff was polite and helpful, even constantly helping me with uncooperative wifi that came and went (mostly went) unpredictably.

Location, once you get used to the chaos and dirt of Delhi streets was fine, a 10-minute or so walk to New Delhi train station and a bit removed from the backpacker and market area of Pahargangh, but close enough to walk to the cafes and shops there.
