Shangri-La's Eros Hotel
Ranked #28 of 715 Hotels in New Delhi
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 20 August 2012

I had a one night stop over on business trip to New Delhi and booked into the Shangri-La Eros Hotel. Airport pick was efficient and a very polite and knowledgeable driver was a bonus for any new visitor to Delhi. Checking in was effortless with attentive front desk staff and a courteous receptionist. The 15th floor room was fairly standard, but well appointed, with a good view of the impressive Indian Parliament buildings around 1 Km away. I would recommend a high floor to get a worthwhile view of the surrounding city which has very few high rise buildings. Service in the bars and restaurant was very efficient. Good buffet breakfast. The fabric of the hotel is beginning to look a bit tired, I would recommend the Shangri-La Eros for a short business stay, but like all up market hotels in Delhi the Shangri-La Eros is overpriced compared to similar hotels in other Asian countries.

Room Tip: Select a high floor

We spent 2 nights in this hotel at the start of our Indian holiday 25-27 June 2012. We were greeted by smiling reception staff in beautiful, colorful saris. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The dining area opened on to lovely gardens. Dining room staff were particularly attentive and helpful. They also explained the Indian foods on offer. "Lucky, the bread man" became a family favorite, with his quick smile and bread basket at breakfast. The breakfasts were the best we tried in India!
Amazing selections and great quality. A service manager made us a mint lassi(his specialty) when my daughter mentioned that lassi were her favorite beverage. The taste was unforgetable! Pool area exceptional, and necessary in 46C heat.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel and we were treated like royal people, everything in this hotel is excellent, the staff welcomes you with a lovely smile and ready to help and assist you any time, the rooms are spacious with nice modern furniture, we loved so much the dish of seasonal fresh fruits offered complimentary by hotel to our room as well as the tea and coffee. The location of this hotel is excellent just few minutes from the famous market connaught, you can reach there by rickshaw for only RB50 (=$1), hotel offeres also a complimentary high speed internet connection. Hotel also has a very rich buffet breakfast with excellent variety on int'l and local dishes. We strongly recommend tis hotel

Room Tip: Try to get a room with view of india gate, you will definately enjoy this.

Pros:
- Good location
- Nice garden and pool (if you consider that this is a downtown hotel and not a resort)
- Turn down service was excellent, my bed looked like it had been ironed and my water was restocked several times a day.

Cons:
- All the extras (particularly transportation and breakfast) are extremely overpriced.
- Rooms are not cheap (usually the case for Delhi upper crust hotels, but even then not good value)
- Breakfast spread and service was good for all accounts, BUT not the fantastic breakfasts I have come to expect from shangri-la. Small breakfast room and some items would run out and not the endless selection they have in other Shangris. Dissappointed.
- Front desk needs some SERIOUS training. My check-in and check-out was handled by amateurs. I prepayed my stay and I had to explain to the staff how the booking and payment system worked at Shangri-La. I felt I was training the staff myself.
- Rooms are 4 star standards. very small and small windows. TV on a wall not even aligned with the bed! Room and building was starting to show its age.
- The hotel bar is outright depressing.

Conclusion: everything was OK or average and nothing really stood out. If you are paying full fare, def not value and dissapointing for Shangri-La. Would not recommend since at this price range, you have your pick of other 5 stars in the same neighbourhood.

Having travelled around India for several weeks it was a delight to stay here. We stayed in a suite which was well appointed and immaculate. The kids loved it, including the room service. This would be one of the finest hotels we have stayed at. The buffet breakfast is fantastic.
