“Over priced, under serviced”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2012

It's not just bond rating agencies  (i.e. S&P and Moody's) that can't be trusted neither can hotel star ratings. This is not a 5star hotel by any means. When I checked in I was assigned a double bedding room when I had reserved and prepaid for a king sized. After having to raise my voice the assigned me a king size bedded room which had no hot water in the morning. Again I vehemently complained and the manager assigned a smaller renovated room. The room was nice with a balcony but they were renovating the room next door. I had to show them from where the noise emminated before they reluctantly agreed to stop with sawing and hammering which otherwise went on from 9 AMto midnight.  Each morning and evening I had to call down or go down to complain. It's  expensive and internet is about R800 after all taxes and printing is extra.   The location is horrible except for walking access to Lodi Gardens which is Devine in the early morning. If I come again I'll book the Maidens which is close to Old Delhi.    I'm a woman traveling alone but on a very expensive tour and I think the service I've received reflect's the culture's dismissive regard for females unless they're elephants.

Room Tip: Get a renovated room in new section

Stayed in January 2012, a really nice hotel, quite old colonial styles with a gentle pace.

Rooms and staff are of an excellent standard, only breakfast is a let down. The Pickwicks room is too small and the buffet is too limited in range and value of food is only average.

Despite checking-in later than expected (after midnight) there were plenty of helpful staff on hand and we were upgraded to a Club room which was lovely, spacious, light and comfortable, with sofas and plenty of room for the extra bed we requested. Extra towels were brought promptly, the bathroom was large with some lovely toiletries (extra points for having conditioner!) and everything was clean. The decor was simple, subtle and classy and the shower was the best I had in India.

The breakfast also gets top marks (the pancakes were fantastic) and they used the Jade restaurant as the breakfast overspill room which actually made for a lovely dining experience.

The reception staff were helpful at checkout and, even though it was busy, helped me to arrange a fixed price for a taxi to the airport which was lower than usual (as this was the exact change we had left at the end of our trip!)

Whilst our stay was short and we didn't use any other facilities, I wished we had been able to to stay longer, the location was great and the gardens looked inviting. It's not cheap mind...

I arrived late at night after a long flight. I was given a room at the ground level and as soon as I entered the room I knew I wasn't going to stay there for long: the room did not have a view - it looked into a wall! The bathroom was from another century and the doors were not fit for the cheapest hostel. Since I was tired I decided to spend the night and raise the issue the following morning. I raised the issue at reception and said that I expected to be in a new room as soon as I returned in the evening.
Fortunately I was moved into a great room at the top floor. My question is: why wasn't I oven that room in the first place?
Throes days were rather cool by India standards and the room felt quite chilly. However the air conditioning did not provide heating and was offered an electric heater. Although it was quite inappropriate it managed to raise the temperature a couple of degrees to around 20.
The Claridge's is in a great location but needs an urgent renovation

Set in the diplomatic area of Delhi the claridges offers a welcome retreat from the hustle of the city. Breakfast can get busy but they seated us in an overflow area. The bakery at breakfast was excellent. The cakes served in the garden area were also fantasticThe room was spacious and clean with complimentary still water.the bath enamel was peeling slightly and the overflow kept falling off but there was lots of hot water and a good shower. They surprised us with a cake on my husbands birthday which was a really thoughtful touch. The staff were all friendly
