A friend and I went on a trek with Aquaterra to Stok Kangri, in August 2019. From the moment we arrived in Leh, the Aquaterra team was there for pick-up and consultation before the trek. The guides are very friendly and helpful, trekkers' safety is their highest priority. For example, before the trek we did an equipment check, to see whether anything was missing or not suitable for this particular trek. The trek itself was magnificent since we went on the less beaten trail through the Shang Valley before we reached the more frequented part of the trek at Monkyarmo. That helped with acclimatization. In contrast to many others on their way to Stok Kangri, we felt fit for climbing long before we reached the base camp. Due to slow acclimatization, we did not encounter any problems in the altitude, thanks to Aquaterra's well thought-out itinerary. Besides their thorough planning and implementation, I also appreciate Aquaterra's respect for mountains, nature and people (e.g. handling of waste and camp sites). Thank you for an amazing experience! By the way, I went rafting with Aquaterra before, which is why I stuck with them :)
Dear Tanya,
Thanks so much for your lovely note and kind words. We recall you paddling hard down the middle Tons, and are super delighted you scaled the 6153m Stok Kangri ; and hope you get to be on many more adventures, with or without us!
Grateful for your kind words, about our team, our attention to detail and safety, and thats the reason why we love discerning guests on our adventures, it makes our job very satisfying.
Wishing you the very best from all our team, and we hope to see you back soon.

This was a great experience. A real adventure, with glacial traverses, fast-flowing river crossings, heart-thumping hikes to high passes. The Aquaterra team was very professional -- much better than some of our earlier treks (we've been on 3 others) in the area. The one thing I'd advise them to do is to have a Plan B developed ahead of time in case the passes are, well, impassable, especially for animals. This apparently happens often when there is deep snow. In our case we never made it over the Parang La. But our guide teamed up with another expedition to add on an equally great hike from Kunzum La to Baralacha La through the Chandra tal lake. It was wonderful. It would have been a bit less stressful if this had been pre-planned. But all in all, a wonderful experience we'd recommend to all.
Dear Manny,
Thank you for your email. We are glad you had a great trek, and we were able to salvage the outing which you had planned with us.
The fall out of climate change was felt by us from Kashmir to Ladakh and Spiti, and a lot of our treks did get affected. Sadly, mountain weather forecasting is still some ways away. Our first trek over the Parangla also got affected and could not reach base camp, as that bore the brunt of worse weather, shortly before your trek.
The Baralacha trek became an option only later as due to big snowfall the river crossings were impossible when the first walk got truncated, so we had to find out a good option based on accurate reports after your return to Kaza.
Thank you for your lovely note and we hope to have you on many of our other adventures, we do hope to see you back.

We enjoyed a remarkable white water rafting trip on the Zanskar with Aquaterra. I cannot overemphasize the beauty of this region - physical and in terms of people - and our admiration for Aquaterra. The trip was exhilarating and we had our challenges (rescue from the icy waters) but the team handled it all with professionalism, grace, humour, and alacrity.
Dear Graham and Nilli,
Thank you for the wonderful words. It was our pleasure to host both of you in Ladakh, we lay an extra emphasis on safety for all our guests and our proud that our team handled it well. A journey down the Zanskar river is truly a trip of a lifetime and we hope the memories stay with you for a long time.
We look forward to having you back in 2020 for another adventure in the Himalayas.
Until we meet again,
Dhruv Rana and the entire team at Aquaterra
I've gone rafting with Aquaterra twice previously and most recently I went on a 6 day trek with them in the Himalayas in Uttarakhand and they were absolutely fantastic. They have great food, great guide to traveller ratio, small groups and complete command over logistics. Vaibhav is a great person to talk to about ideas for trips and he is really very helpful with newbies as well. Can't wait for the next trip!
Dear Anisha,
Thanks for your lovely note and for noticing the care that went into your trek.
We look forward to returning guests and not only for the value they see in ATA operations, but the simple fact that they appreciate and respect the outdoors as we do.
We hope to see you back on another adventure!
Warmly,
Smarat
Aquaterra Adventures organized a six-day vacation with four days of trekking and camping, for our family of four. It was our first experience trekking in the Himalayas, and the Dayara Bugyal trek was an ideal beginner trek. Aquaterra is without doubt the best adventure tour operator in India. Their arrangements and equipment were flawless, guides were knowledgeable and caring, and food was excellent. Thanks to good planning by the guides, we were able to avoid crowds and rain, and experience the majesty of the Himalayas and the serenity of the high-altitude Bugyals (meadows) in the best possible way. All of us will cherish this experience for a lifetime!
After landing in Dehradun airport, we took a cab to Mussoorie and stayed overnight. The next morning, we were picked up by our Aquaterra guide and driven to a remote Himalayan village (Barsu), where we stayed at the basic but charming Dayara Resort, with beautiful views of Gangotri and nearby peaks. On day 3, we trekked up to Barnala Bugyal and camped for the night. Day 4 was a trek to our campsite just below Dayara Bugyal, and Day 5 we trekked to Dayara Top for some magnificent panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas and Dayara Bugyal itself. Having left early, we managed to beat the crowds and had the entire place to ourselves. Day 6 was the long drive back to Dehradun. The driver organized by Aquaterra was very safe on the mountain roads, and the guides were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area and flora and fauna. The cook rustled up excellent meals (imagine pizza while camping, and pakoras and samosas with evening tea!), despite the rain and cold.
Dear Sriram,
Thanks so much for your note and the careful noting of all aspects that made your trip special.
We are glad we could make your first trek a memorable one, do share images when possible.
We wish you a super year and lots more hiking trips in the future, where we hope to see you with us.
Warm regards
Vaibhav
Camp Bagi (near Mori, Uttarakhand) is a beautifully located and professionally maintained wilderness camping site. Operated by Aquaterra, the gold standard in adventure tours in India, it offered us a highly memorable rafting, hiking and camping experience over the 4 days that we stayed there (May 28-31, 2019).
The equipments, the instructors and the safety protocols are of highest standard, as they should be in any adventure activity. One feels safe and reassured while running a river or hiking in a forest with team aquaterra, as they don't cut corners. Dhruv Rana is a well informed, well traveled and expert chief instructor/manager who manages his team professionally. All the instructors and staff were capable as well as courteous (special mention our affable instructor Pankaj and the mess/kitchen staff Vijender). Though simple, tents were spick and span, toilets clean and hygienic and meals were delicious and well presented (despite the hardships associated with the remote location).
All in all, a thrilling, relaxing, rejuvenating trip. Thanks a lot team aquaterra, you rock!!"
Dear Rajesh,
Thank you for visiting Camp Bagi, and for choosing one of the loveliest mountain camps in the Himalaya.
We are so glad you noticed the quality of equipment, guides and safety provided. Adventure travel is only as good as the gear, guides and guidelines ; and Dhruv Rana is one of the best!
We are grateful for your visit and we hope to see you back!
