“Great location and the perfect hostess!”
Reviewed 25 January 2012

We stayed at Shamnath Villa for a total of 4 nights, returning after our initial booking when we came back from a two week long trip through Rajasthan.

The rooms are spacious and clean; the only improvement I could think of being maybe the bathrooms, some of which could use a refresh. The beds were comfy and were made up daily. Breakfast was delicious and was served in the lovely common areas where we met other guests from all walks of life; I also very much appreciated that the time for breakfast was flexible- the helpful staff always accommodating the guests' needs. The whole place is very quiet as set back from the road (+ secured gate) and it was nice to be able to sit on the balcony facing the gardens.

However, what really makes Shamnath Villa stand out is the lovely hostess. Meeting Mrs. Shamnath has been a highlight of my trip to India, which could at times be overwhelming. She was always available for questions and was warm and welcoming to all her guests.

Next to that, Mrs. Shamnath went out of her way to ensure we picked a reputable travel agent for our trip to Rajasthan (after we almost fell for a scam),personally calling him and even helping to negotiate the price and good hotels. She also checked on the car and driver when he came to pick us up and armed us with lots of tips for Rajasthan. We had a fantastic time feeling safe and comfortable thanks to Mrs. Shamnath.

This place sees a lot of repeat visitors and I would certainly return when back in India.

When you've been sitting in an increasingly bemused state in a Delhi Police Station to report a pick-pocketed mobile phone just for insurance purposes (beware the Metro) and your hostess, who isn't even supposed to know you're there, arrives with her husband and takes charge of the situation to ensure you are dealt with properly (and not asked for a "favour"), you know you are being cared for. I doubt if I've ever stayed at a place where the affection of the guests for their hosts has been more palpable (many repeat and both Indians and Foreigners). A good place to meet others, well located, good quality accommodation with excellent food and pleasant staff, the absolute bonus is the charming, intelligent and articulate Shalini Shamnath. She is a gem. When you have time, ask where the funds from the Villa are being spent. You'll feel even better about staying there.

I could not speak higher of the Sham Nath Villa, and the wonderful family who runs it. The accommodations are very comfortable and clean. The staff are lovely and the food is delicious. The family who runs the b&b are very sweet, and go out of their way to ensure your trip to Delhi is as enjoyable as possible. The best of the best.

My friends stayed here and I wish I had, too. Still, I spent more time here than at my own hotel. Mrs. Shamnath is a terrific hostess, and the villas are spacious, clean and comfortable. Next time I travel to Delhi I'll make sure to stay at Sham Nath Villa.

We spent three weeks travelling around India and this was by far the best place we stayed in. The rooms, service, food and hospitality was quite outstanding. Why pay lots of money to stay in the Oberoi, opposite this place, when you could stay here.

We visited Delhi for three nights in November 2011 as a group of 4. Sham Nath Villa is located just north of Old Delhi in an area called Civil Lines. It is ideally located for sightseeing, as it is 2 minutes walk from the Civil Lines metro station.

We arrived late after a long journey by train from Shimla and was greeted by the hostess, Shalini, who will make your stay in Delhi even more enjoyable. In fact one of our group got struck down but the infamous 'Delhi Belly', by all accounts it was the food from the train. Shalini was quite literally a lifesafer by arranging some medicine from her doctor. Thank you, Shalini.

The rooms are spacious, clean and our rooms had a shared balcony overlooking an oasis of a garden. Over an extensive breakfast of both Indian and continential food, Shalini ran through a sightseeing tour of Delhi. She gave us many useful tips which allowed us to pack as much into our time as possible. Delhi has many attractions, so try to stay longer than we did. It is also possible to eat at Sham Nath Villa in evenings, which we did. The food again was delicious, with a wide variety available.

Overall if you can stay here book it. If we are back in Delhi in the future we will staying in Sham Nath Villa.
