“Superb Understated Luxury Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2011

This hotel is fabulous! I come to Delhi each year for work and at last there is a hotel that oozes style. The staff really do look after you and genuinely want you to come back, they never had to ask us for our names as they had them committed to memory. It was like coming home.

The hotel has a very small number of rooms (about 60 I think) and I believe half of them are apartments that are hired out on a long term basis. We had a look at these apartments which are very large and luxurious (with a kitchen) but probably too much for a short stay.

We had a suite with a plunge pool on the 8th floor (802) and large sitting room - each evening I had a plunge and spent a happy hour listening to the call to prayers from the nearby mosque - all very restful.

The hotel might be too understated for some and it is the direct opposite of the Leela which is wildly ostentatious. The Aman is very discreet with a small (almost invisible) entrance off the Lodhi Rd.

The bar is quiet but serves up a mean cocktail (the Long Island Iced Tea nearly floored me) and the restaurant is up there with the best.

Wireless internet access was complimentary. A minor point but it really cheeses me off when similar hotels rob you for this - it leaves a very unpleasant taste in your mouth and sums up their cynical approach to customer service.

The hotel has an attractive pool with a poolside grill for snacks and meals - all freshly prepared. We did not try the spa which I gather is very good - not my sort of thing I am afraid.

The only 'complaint' was the coffee which was not too good - but hey, who cares?

I will definitely come back - heaven.

We decided to stay here because of we heard The Aman's emphasis on "a lifestyle experience, without limitations." We decided to stay in suite 802 due to the attached private plunge pool. We encountered 2-3 problems like plumbing issues which, were resolved. However, the hotel was absolutely empty. I think that's primarily due to it being over-priced. The customer service can be improved. When we gave the feedback to the manager he was nice enough to offer us a free spa use. In all, the food was good but slow service.

Ok, so this place is fab by any other standards, a wonderful respite from dirty dusty Delhi. The rooms are amazing especially the plunge pool, I would rank among the best for size and style of many city hotels, but some of the fixtures and fittings are not up to scratch. Given it is the first city Aman and a prototype for Aman "hubs" to act as gateways to the proper resorts it does this job very well, it just isn't the full Aman Experience that the other resorts offer.

this stunning hotel is meant to be minimalistic - however, it ends up meeting minimum standards for its pricing. the hotel rooms are big, but a little unplanned in terms of usable area - the huge bath tub is nice, but a waste of space.

lastly the restaurants being all together feels like you are dining in a food car in the train! they need to be more adaptive of what people expect in india

The Leela and the Aman now stand apart from the other 30+ 5* star hotels in Delhi, the rooms having private pools set it apart and the location being both central and quiet next to the lodhi gardens is unbeatable
