We spent 5 nights at Playa Tortuga. The resort is a bit dated but certainly the largest on the island with the most amenities. The pool is the marque feature along with the bar/restaurant on a pier over the water. The room was good sized however the mold was overwhelming and bothered us quite a bit. The staff was pleasant and the food was average. Breakfast buffets were nice but not extravagant. Transportation to town and airport was readily available and useful.

The gay at the reception was not very welcoming. Little details, like giving us three cards for the pool towels, while we were four since our youngest is only ten, I had to ask for the fourth card. I made explicit in the reservation that we were four. Special mention tough for Nashda and Guadaupe for their friendliness and efficiency.

The room has not refrigerator, water, coffee or tea. Breakfast is poor.
They make you wear a bright green armband during your stay, just for the breakfast. Imagine walking in Bocas Town or anywhere else with your nice arm band....
There is no lift.
The toilet does not flush in the morning while they refill the pool.
If you want to have an open account for the restaurant or bar, they ask you to leave your credit card at reception during your stay.
During breakfast there are at least four waiters looking at the guests, but it takes ages until the clear the used plates.
The pillows are hard, they gave me a terrible head ache. I had to ask for a softer one.

The hotel is a $2 taxi ride from town, with a nice beach and pool. It is not 5 star but it is clean and a great location. Food was very good. Breakfast included was a nice assortment of hot and cold, something for everyone. lunch and dinner restaurant is actually very good and prices were the same as going into town. Best is happy hour at the pool and bar from 5-7 daily. rum drinks $2, beer $1. Micheal the pool waiter was great and friendly. if you arrange excursions you can be picked up and dropped off right at the dock of the hotel. definitely go down the street the Skully's bar, very fun place with good drinks and food. also rented ATV's at skully's, aka flying pirate. so very fun. like others have said walls are paper thin so yes you can hear loud people but never a real issue for us. Remember you are on a remote island it is not the 4 seasons but a very nice clean place to stay for a couple of nights.

You are able to make really great pictures of this hotel and the view and the pool.
But do not forget about the other important things.
First of all: we are in the Caribean!? Where is the smile? Where is the atmosphere? Where is the fun?
The staff is totally NOT feeling it.
They are somber, they are down, grumpy and totally not willing to help you....

The hotel is situated quitely and if you want to go to town they have a free shuttle. The hours are set and there are only a few possibilities. Very strang ours. You can leave at 10:00 but first possibility to return is later that afternoon. Nothing at noon.
If you leave at 20:00 you have to eat quickly in town, because at 22:00 is the last return already...

The swimmingpool looks alright, but there are a zillion birds flying around and pooping around. And too bad I cannot add the sounds here, but this is horrible.
And since we are in the Caribean, I would expect some merengue, bachata or salsa or anything. The only sound is the screeching birds...

The breakfast is alright but absolutely NO 5-star! Not even 2-star. The scrambled eggs come with the shell in it. And if one thing is empty? You can wait for more than 30 minutes to get new food. The staff look at the empty bin, shake their head and go do something else.
If you stay a few days, the food is the same every day.
Boring, tasteless and nothing special.
With also véry uninterested staff!
No "hello good morning", no friendly smile, also a grumpy look....

The rooms are fine, the linnen of the bed is soft but the pillows are horrible.
Too thick and al loose pieces in it.
The shower needs to be cleaned and if the cleaning lady is gone I think she did nothing in the room....really under average this.

Everywhere in the building you see the empty glasses and cups and plates for staff to be picked up. But after a few hours it is still waiting there for somebody to be picked up....
The wake-up call has been forgotten two times...
They simply forgot...

Since 3 weeks the hotel has been taken over by a procution company that produces a UK-reality show Survivor on an island nearby. The complete production team is working in the hotel and they are arrogant, obnouxious, very rude and loud
Not only in the lobby, during the breakfast and dinner but they think they own the building.

Plus: most rooms have a connecting door. That means you hear éverything from your neighbour; from talking, to farting to taking a shower.
The staff that works on this tv-show have their walkie-talkies in the rooms the whole night on, so good luck sleeping!
They are told to keep it down, but they really do not care.
I know this is temporary, but the managers of the hotel, take "care of it" and nothing really happens...

I would not recommend staying in this hotel.
There are better options.

Room Tip: Demand a room that has nó connecting doors!

Very nice and comfortable hotel. All rooms has ocean view with a nice balcony. The breakfast buffet at the hotel is really good. We did not eat any lunch or dinner at the hotel as we wanted to be downtown Bocas town. The service at the hotel is good,

Room Tip: All rooms are good
