The place is absolutely paradise-like and although I thought Lonely Planet was at times overdoing the enthousiasm, it was quiet right about this one. You get there (by taxi or tuktuk) through a maze of small sand roads, and then suddenly you are there, right at the beach. Mangrove beach cabanas has little (but strong!) wooden houses (cabanas), made out of driftwood and they make up beautiful rooms! The bathroom is in the "basement" / ground, but far more luxureous then you might expect. The bathroom is made out of stone, and has a solid wooden stairs. Just perfect. Around the cabanas there are palmtrees and you are already walking on sand. THe (beach)bar is also the reception and functions as restaurant and chill out zone for the guests. Good service, quick service, quality food, great milkshakes, nice people and the whole place just makes you want to relax.
If you go to sri Lanka, you should most definately stay here as well. The beach is huge and longstretched.
Downside was we were there off-season so we could only swim in a small part of the sea just behind rocks, because the currents were too strong and they were not kidding. They assured us though, that in season (from half december onwards) it was to be cristal blue water, sun and you'd be able to swim. Always ask the staff if it's save!!!! Still, it's worth the visit.More
