“Awesome food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2012

I was there with my family for 1 night FB basis. buffet is having large variety of food.
room was clean and quite, Couldn't enjoyed much in the pool as they were doing some renovation in main pool. Staff is friendly. most of the cottages are upstairs, so if you are accommodating your kids please ask for a single story cottage.

Can recommend for any, Specially nature lovers

We stayed here for three nights from 04 to 06 May. We thorougly enjoyed the whole experience and will recommend to others. The hotel is in the midst of so much of nature & the service was excellent and so was the food. The rooms are well appointed and there is a lot for people who love nature. You will have the option to go on a jungle trail with a naturalist who has a sound knowladge about Indigenous birds, trees etc, unfortunately i was unable to go on kayaking due to heavy wind, but had the oppartunity to go on a bike ride around the lake which was awsome. There is so much space to walk around and be out. You feel you are living in the midst of a forest but at the same enjoy all the luxuries of modern day living. It was a great experience staying here. One of the best hotels I have ever been to ! :)

stayed at Deer park hotel in may 2012 for two nights. Overall it was a very satisfactory experience. Room was clean; so were the linen and towels. A lot of tea bags with diferrent flavours were available.(probably the most number of tea bags given in a SriLankan hotel) Food was really great with a lot of variety. everything was cooked well with authentic sriLankan flavours. I met the Chef too; a nice man who knows his job well. My compliments to the Chef. Also there was a very very active young lady in a saree who was hyper keen to take your empty plate away: so much so sometimes it became a tough job to retain our plate on the table. But all credit to her; She was a live wire inside the restaurant.
Pool was not superb but clean and nice. Tough job for the pool attendant to keep it clean as the pool is surrounded by trees and leaves were eternally falling into it.
Superb Giritale lake was right in front of the hotel and it is very easy to access most of the tourist attractions like Sigiriya, Minneriya national park (with elephants, elephants and elephants), Polonnaruwa ancient city etc.

Negatives:
1.Welcome drink

2.Once we had to sit at a table which had been used by someone else earlier. The restaurant staff promised to lay the table for us but it was half done. There were no side plates, and one fork was missing too. My wife had to go and get the side plates from the buffet table as they were not forthcoming. This may be a mistake by an individual but I heard another family complaining about the same issue the night before. So there is a lot of room for improvement

3.Room lighting was not great; probably meant for the romantic couples but if you happen to drop something you virtually need a torch to find it.

4.Inadequate spaces for car parking especially on a house full day
.
5.No restriction on Smoking at the poolside. We had quite a bit of passive smoking.

I hope the management would take this as constructive criticism...!

Room Tip: Pool side rooms can be somewhat disturbing.

Ideal set out for adventerous people. Staff is very friendly and courteous. Food was excellent. The array of dishes and food presentation was personally supervised by the Chef which was remarkeble. Even for the late comers there was ample food. Must complement the Executive Chef and his Brigade for preparing tasty food which includes sumptuous dessert corner too. Food & beverage and front office staff were polite and prompt.
Rooms need an upliftment and the garden maintenance too.

The hotel is beautifully located! That's a GREAT point in favor! Really! Lake, forest, etc.!
But the rest is really average! The food is good but not diversified! The rooms are not so great! The bathrooms are average despite the open ceiling while showering! ;-) The furniture is becoming old, but remember we are in the middle of the jungle with lots of moisture! The SPA seems great but we didn't went for it.

Despite all this, the staff is really friendly. That's for sure!

Room Tip: The rooms in the ground floor are more spacious and you don't need to use stairs!
