As the title of my review states, this is a good place to go to for first time visitors to Sri Lanka. That's not to say that they don't offer good local food. They have on their menu a curry and rice meal as well (see attached picture), and it tastes pretty good, but that's about all there is for local fare. The rest on the menu are mostly western food such as French toast and English breakfast, as well as burgers, macaroni etc. So if you are not accustomed to Sri Lankan food (which would be a surprise because they taste really good!) or you miss western food, then The Empire Cafe is a really good restaurant to visit. The restaurant interior is rather quaint and charming, its staff are really friendly and the food pretty good.

We popped in here after our visit to the Tooth temple for dinner. The juices were lovely and fresh and the sri lankan curry perfect size, for around $5 aust. Passionfruit tart was homemade, fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend, we went back again for lunch.

This is a cafe next to the temple. You cannot miss the pink sign. The ambience is nice, clean and food very delicious. The service is prompt and good. Vegan friendly and not too expensive. Worth a try if you feel like having something non Sri Lankan.

Located opposite the tooth temple and in the city center a convenient location and enough seating place.
western meals are also served and a 3 course meal per person with drinks is around 1500 rupees or 10 us $ . Try the mix fruit drinks, freshly made...my FAVORITE IS mango and passion fruit mix --AWESOME!! DESSERTS ARE AROUND 3 US $.
