on our way to our hotel our guide suddenly turned into this amazing place - not on our schedule. But what and amazing place dating back to the Iron Age and shows how these people lived all those years ago. The site was very interesting and it is considered that there are large number of finds still to be made. It made for a very interesting stop and learning something of Sri Lanka all those years ago. If passing it is well worth a visit.

It is amazing I saw a bill board about ancient crematory while passing Kurunegala- Dambulla Road in Sri Lanka. The site is very nicely planned and the staff is there to explain in case of you are more in to details. There you can see the clay pots used by ancient people to put the ash of their deceased loved ones and bury ceremonially at this place. The researches are still going on so please be careful to not to harm to any of the artifacts and burial site. Great place to see.

This is a well preserved and arranged ancient burial site around 600BC. Those who lived in Sri Lanka at that time had the technology to make pottery and toughen them using heat. They have cremated the dead and deposited ash in a clay pot with their jewelries. Then buried it under a stone structure. There many clusters of burial sites unearthed and believe still there are many to discover over a 13 hectare area.
