We visited Montenegro on holiday after talking to lady who was born there and told us how wonderful it was. The whole countryside had a feel of Lake Garda, Italy about it, very beautiful, and a little rugged in places.

Closer inspection dispelled the similarities to Italy as the whole area had a run down feeling, with a desperate need of some TLC. Lots of tatty old buildings and lots of part-started new buildings on which work appeared to have ceased for some time. This impression was reinforced on our walking excursion to find supplies after booking in to our apartment. The taxis that we used all appeared old. I noticed that the Mercedes taxi that we hired to return from Igalo had 248,885 miles on the clock as we got out!

At two o'clock on the afternoon of our first day all the water stopped. On investigation we were told that it should be back on at about five thirty this evening, but it may go off again later. They couldn't tell me if this was a regular occurrence. It certainly happened again on Monday afternoon although as we were out Tuesday and Wednesday during the day and water was OK by the time we returned, we have no knowledge of whether or not it was turned off on those days.

The apartment was fairly clean although the corners of the rooms were a little grubby, with the remains of numerous insects smeared across the walls, and one or two on the floor - so it hadn't been very well cleaned before we got there. The kitchen lacked many of the basic utensils. Few cooking knives, three saucepans (only one with a handle), chipped crockery, assorted glasses. Comfortable leather furniture, two bedrooms with king size beds - comfortable - but only room for the tiniest of wardrobes, only one coat hanger between them, no drawers, no bed-side tables. No instructions for the TV or DVD players, but three remote controls! No instructions for the AC. No literature for any of the facilities in the apartment - washing machine (broken soap tray and incredibly noisy in operation, possibly due to failing bearings), the dishwasher or the oven. No toaster. No washing up brush. No washing up soap and only three soap blocks for the dishwasher. Only half roll of loo paper.

The bathroom was cleanish but the corners every where had dirt, dust and fluff. The shower had a great deal of mould around the edges, and badly needed new sealant all round. The shower tray leaked from underneath into a drain situated in the centre of the bathroom. This may have been by design or a fault. The shower head holding bracket was situated just below waste level on the shower wall so one could only get completely wet by holding it up by hand. This meant wetting one's self all over and having to turn the water off to lather up! This again may have been by design as the shower tray was very slow to empty and had the shower head been high enough to stand under with the water running all of the time the shower tray would have overflowed. The shower cubicle was so small that I found it necessary to open the doors to be able to bend to pick up the soap from the shower surround - there was of course no tray to hold soap, or any other shower washing products in the cubicle. Shower room very crowded as that is where the washing machine was sited too. Above the door an electric cable, with bare wires, stuck out of the wall. I don't know if it was live. It seemed prudent not to investigate. The shower room sported the only mirror in the whole two bedroomed apartment.

Generally the apartment had an air of needing money spent - marks on the wall - faulty light bulbs - electricity cables hanging from the wall - faulty doors and shutters - poor selection of cutlery, crockery, cooking and serving utensils - damaged furniture - only one mirror - two mop handles in a mop bucket, but no mop heads - no information/instruction booklets at all. There was no toaster.

The apartment block looked very pleasant and the staff could not be faulted. They were friendly and so helpful, but sadly the unfinished patio round the pool, the lack of facilities, poor general cleanliness, very small space and disappointing overall situation means that we will not go back, and could not recommend it.

Great area.
We stayed for 3 weeks and we had only a couple problems with the food on two of the resturants we were at, and it was only minor problems.

The service at the apartments were excellent and good location. Some of the locals don't speak english, but most of them does. The owners are norwegian, and are good at english, some of them lives there so you can get good information and directions from them.

The nearest town, Herceg Novi, is 8km from the apartments and you can find the most there. Bus goes every 10 or 15 min. from 1200-2100 (or something).

There are lot of resturants around the complex and lot of good ones. We used to go to the Fanfani resturant, because of theire good food and the music evenings.

Good location, good resturants, and good service. It's easy to get around and its close to the beach.
