“Good Tioman resort with easy access from the airport”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

We have stayed at this hotel for five nights in the middle of August. I was a bit afraid of what we might find considering some of the reviews around here. However, I booked a Superior Chalet and I was not disappointed. Ok, the chalets are not new and sparkling however they are clean and have all the amenities needed (AC, TV, fridge, water heater, coffee & tea facilities, water bottles) and they reacted promptly if we had any issues or questions. We were also lucky to get a (what I call) sea-view chalet very close to the pool and restaurant so even better.

The pool is big enough and though it can get crowded in the early evening with kids it is swimmable during the midday. The restaurants offer plenty of choice though the food in the main restaurant is a tad blunt (the Thai/Indian restaurant open only during the evening is a lot better, but also a bit more expensive). A downside, considering it is a duty free island, the alcohol in the restaurant is very expensive. But you can fix this by buying your own booze from the duty free shop in the airport (~3RM can of beer) or one of the other duty free places on the island. The food in the restaurants is a bit expensive for Malaysia (25-30RM at the basic restaurant) but then again, it is quite expensive on the whole island (we’ve tried a few places also in town - even the one at the gate - but the food was not necessarily cheaper. However, water and beer yes. Btw, don’t buy water from Berjaya (10RM at the restaurant, 8.5RM at the shop), just go at the gate and buy it for 2.5RM for the big bottle!!

Sea life on Tioman is good enough. You can take day trips around (about 200RM for a 4WD/day) but you can snorkel of the beach on the right side of the pool as well. Or go to Renggis Island.

Overall, we liked our stay at Berjaya and would come back if we ever get the chance. Not sure if we would have liked it just as much if we stayed at one of the huts further away from the beach but the location we had was perfect!

We stayed here with our 2 children (4&2) for 6 nights and it provided the perfect spot for our relaxing break. We hardly left the pool each day the kids loved it. The beach would have been perfect for the kids to swim in but we couldn't drag them away from the pool! We stayed on a family vacay package in a junior suite. It was clean and plenty big enough for us. It was easy walking distance to pools, restaurant and beach. We felt the vacay package was good value cause the kids food and drinks were all free. The kids loved seeing the monitor lizards & bats, l There are plenty of activities to do if you want to (we did a half day trip to the turtle sanctuary) or you can sit and do nothing. Tioman and berjaya allowed us the perfect spot for our holiday. The only thing I would say is berjaya could contribute to cleaning up the rubbish Immediately outside of the resorts main gates.

I recently stayed for 3 nights at the Berjaya. Expecting a good service from a 4 star resort I was disappointed when I had to ask three times for the luggage to be brought to our rooms, when a resort that prides itself on its snorkeling activities did not have a single mask for children and renting the snorkeling gear for a day is a real rip off and when having asked 3 successive times when the disposable underwater cameras were going to arrive since they had finished them 2 weeks earlier (?) all I got was a wane smile and no answer. The Standard Chalet we stayed in is in need of refurbishing with tired and worn decor and I could not believe we were given only 1 towel each. The pool is fun and so is the main restaurant with a good selection of Asian and Western food but overall I felt the prices were too high. Staff looked as if they would have been happier doing something else so we did not feel welcome and were happy to leave

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and also for taking your time to pen the review on your recent stay with us.

We are deeply sadden to hear of your experience. There is no excuse and we would like you to accept our most sincere apologies for the poor service rendered to your goodself. We have since shared your comments with the Front Office and Food & Beverage Manager.

We do have 30 sets of children snorkeling sets, however these sets is rarely rented out unless it is school holidays. As for the disposable camera, the delivery was delayed as there was no stock available with the supplier.

We thank you for the feedback and apologize for the shortfall or distress you may have suffered due to the points mentioned. We hope to see you return in the future.

The schedule shows two nights at the island of Tioman. My son decides to join me on this trip again.
Coming in by Berjaya Air from Singapore, sure a unique experience to reach these nice island.
I was in contact with the hotel about the transfer from the airport. No problem, they catch every incoming flight for guests to the hotel. Free of charge.
A middle aged woman welcomed us at the hotels desk.
No time to wait for us despite a good number of other pax on the same flight. Last in first out!.
Booked and confirmed was a De Luxe Waterfront Chalet.
There are two levels, ground floor and first floor.
I recommend first floor with a nice view to the beach.
After my request our ground floor location was quickly changed for the first floor.
The room really spacious, nice asian furniture and a new flat screen tv.
Half board buffet style was offered and is recommendable with not that much other offers around.
Also with the most guests from Asia during our stay, they offered a good number of European food dishes also.
Sure ok this way for us.
The same with the braakfast buffet, everything there what we are looking for.
The hotel offers several action packages, jungle trekking, diving, snorkeling. We´ve done the jungle trekking together with a couple from Singapore only. A real good way to know more about life at Tioman these days.
Check out and the transfer back to the airport works perfectly fine.
Berjaya Air shuttled us in around one hour back to Singapore.
The usual question for the downsides?.
Well, this is definitely not a new built property, but everything, at least in our chalet, works without problems. And the prices for example soft drinks are sure much higher than usually in Malaysia, but that´s the way to go when you decide to spent the time in such a resort location.

In the biggest town in Tioman Island, a bit far away from the harbour but with a good shuttle service. Rooms are a bit old, but really clean and with a lot of nice amenities. Restaurants a bit expensive. The resort is big (we prefer smaller places) but you can get a bus ride to move within the hotel. There is no shuttle to go back to town in the evening, so we had to take a private taxi. Even though it is bigger then what we like we had a good time.
