Outspan Hotel
Reviewed 23 September 2015

I stayed at this hotel with my family including my 4 and 3 year olds and we had the best time. We rested and we were catered for very specially. We arrived on short notice and we were accommodated with the things we needed. The shower water was not heating quickly and when we asked for help, the issue was resolved without delay. The food was awesome and the grounds are amazing.
It is a nice place to go when there is no rush to leave the next morning. The children played in the grounds and did not want to leave but we had to.
The staff at the restaurant were very helpful and paid close attention to our needs. I have been in this hotel before as a tour guide and also as a guest. This time I was treated extremely well. Thank you

Room Tip: Wifi only works near the reception area

If you're looking for good food, great ambience and great service then this is the hotel for you. On a clear day it feels like Mt. Kenya is literally on the doorsteps of the hotel welcoming you to this hotel located in Nyeri Town 100 miles from Nairobi, Kenya's capital city. I regularly visit the hotel for a meal and a drink and for a place away from the hustle and bustle it is my go to place.

The Kenyan Legacy.
Outspan still fighting to retain its former glory. Even though the hotel is in bad need of renovation, the food, grounds and service are totally worth it. The rooms (stay in the deluxe only) do need quite a bit of work but they serve their purpose.
Whether for a quick stop-over, to catch up on your sleep or a 'rendevouz / meet up' of sorts, would recommend this hotel/

Room Tip: Rooms bad need of renovation - Go for deluxe rooms only

This hotel is utterly charming - like stepping into a different age.

I came to the hotel after several months working in a nearby conflict zone, and really needed some peace and TLC. Got a good deal as it was low season and very quiet.

The grounds are tranquil although the room walls are thin, so you will hear every cough from the guests next door.

I got given a large room with a terrace and seating area.

Food was plentiful - several courses at dinner, all good.

I am also a Guide (Girl Scout) leader, so wanted to see the Baden-Powell museum (Paxtu) and nearby grave. I was given a personal tour of Paxtu by the curator. It was very atmospheric. If you tell them on booking that you are a Scout/Guide, then you can stay in the Paxtu bedroom, which has a rolltop bath.

Overall, I wish I could live at Outspan. Lovely surroundings, and cozy to catch up with email by the fire in the main lounge area. Would recommend.

This hotel has a beautiful garden. The rooms are spacious and the staff are really trying hard to be helpful and are. However, the food is abysmal and dinner is included in the daily rate. Also note that the Wi-Fi only works in the lobby and not the rooms.
