We stayed at Bagus for 5 nights in a twin room which is clean, spacious, light and airy with a good bathroom (there are lots of varieties of rooms so check a few before choosing!) . The homestay is right on the lake which is a perfect spot for swimming and taking in the nice scenery. There are plenty of free activities to do (canoe, pool table etc..) and the room is a reasonable price. Internet is at the bar area not in the room, and our room was located near the kitchen so there was a fair bit of noise in the morning (and we were always hungry because it smelt good!) The dance show was very lacking in enthusiam and as were the staff throughout our stay, it always felt an effort to ask/ order something and it looked impossible for them to smile! Great place to stay a few days but the staff let it down.

Room Tip: Have a look at a few rooms before choosing, very different room to room!

We booked this hotel last minute just before we visited Tuk-tuk. And it turns out to be a truly memorable stay! Especially the food! We're vegetarians and they served really great variety of food which tastes really good! Beds are okay. If you're going to be out a lot, it's not gonna be a big problem. Besides, you could always chill at the restaurant!

before I might forget it, I want to express my deepest sympathy for your kind and hostile service. I did appreciate every moment in your beautiful garden and highly liked all your food and beverages. Even though I could only talk to Erick I felt a great understanding and top teamwork at your lovely home. May all be stay healthy and together. I am sorry I could not find a guestbook. That's why I follow up with my email.
I miss all staff and send a big hug to each of them.

Room Tip: ...best garden around the whole lake...

We came here due to meeting Eric, one of the staff members, on the parapat ferry and it was the best decision we have made! I honestly think this is the best value homestay ever!
Our room was cheap 75,000 but it was clean, secure and comfortable not to mention you get a hot shower and western toilet.
The property itself is huge. Situated on the lake it has a big green lawn, chairs to sunbathe in, volleyball net, badminton net, Childs playground, kayak and a pool table. The restaurant area is a lovely place to relax in. Wifi is good.
The restaurant itself is amazing! Food is cheap, big and delicious! We never had a bad meal and pretty much never ate anywhere else. Staff are friendly and speak good English. They have a wide range of rooms to suit all budgets. Highly recommended.

Thanks to Eric for bringing us here, playing guitar for us and being an all round awesome guy!!!!

The best thing about this hotel is its lakeside location. It is also good value for money considering its location.

The hotel consists of several independent cottages set amidst a garden and connected by pathways. The hotel has a restaurant and extensive gardens and a lotus pond. There is no pool but you can always go for a swim in the lake. There are nets setup in the garden so you can play badminton or tennis if you are interested.

Rooms are clean with basic furnishings. There is a bed, lamps and a stand. No wardrobes and no air-conditioning (which thankfully is not required given the high altitude). Thankfully there is hot water which is great since it gets chilly in the mornings. You need to bring your own soap and toiletries though. These can also be bought from a store across the road.

Unlike the more expensive properties on the island, the hotel does not have its own jetty. So getting to the hotel takes a bit of walking. Given its lower pricing, the hotel attracts a younger and more lively crowd. So dinner at the restaurant is always a lively affair. There is a Batak dance performance on some days the hotel also offers a massage service.

The best thing about the hotel however are the views over the lake. Most of the rooms are facing the lake and sunrises over the neighboring mountains are breathtaking. Make sure to get up early so as not to miss them.

Definitely worth a stay if you are visiting Samosir Island.

Room Tip: Lake facing rooms offer amazing views
