“Spacious room, good location....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2012

Excellent location, facing the sea and close to the ferry terminal. Its a low rise building. Rooms are significantly spacious compared to similar hotels in bigger cities, but furnitures, fittings and bathrooms look a tad tired, thats why I gave a rating of 4/5. No issues with the cleanliness or the quality of linen and towels.

Seaview? Not unless you're camped on the roof and can see over the trees in the park across the road next to the water.

Quiet? Anything but, as you're right on the main road with continual honking day and night.

Helpful staff? Room-safe balanced on flimsy shelf and not bolted to anything collapsed and crashed to the floor, 2 calls to Reception brought no one, insistence the following day at Reception finally brought an unsmiling manager, and subsequent 'maintenance' re-balanced it on same flimsy shelf until the inadvisability of this was pointed out.

Room cleaning was ignored if room was not available at the morning time suiting staff. Room was nice and big and obviously recently decorated, however bathroom was dated and tired though adequate. Good position of hotel, but same can be said for countless others. Common areas need the carpets replaced, or at least cleaned.

If you're seeking anything approaching 'grand', or have expectations of a certain quality above 'budget' as suggested by the price, you'll be disappointed here. In short, large rooms but otherwise unremarkable, grudging and inefficient service from the manager down - which would obviously be the case until present manager is dismissed.

Room Tip: All the rooms with 'sea view' (there isn't one...lol) will be noisy. Better to choose t...

This hotel is in an excellent location for access to a variety of eating and entertainment options that will make your trip more interesting and inexpensive. Rooms have very high ceilings, beautiful mouling, comfortable furniture and bed linens. Only about two blocks from the hydrofoil boat dock and close to several parks. It is across the road from the beach and our room had a nice view of the water and boats. Quiet at night.
There is some construction nearby but the noise was bearable. The free in room wi-fi works very well and the breakfast had many many choices. The rugs are a bit worn but clean. Shower is functionally obsolete. Front desk helped us hire a driver for half day of touring at a reasonable cost and sane driver. I would say this is an authentic experience and beats the more remote, isolated hotels on back beach and to the north on the South China Sea. Very few staff have much of a command of English but somehow that was not really a problem.

Room Tip: Go for the midrange room with a balcony and sea view.

Spent two nights at this lovely hotel which has been renovated, since I last visited it many years ago. The room with a sea view and balcony was large, clean and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a feast with good food and an extensive selection of various dishes, fresh breads, pho, juices and coffees, etc. Enjoyed the easy walking distance to downtown, the seaside park, and other locations in the immediate area. Walkable from the hydrofoil station. Good wifi coverage and AC.

Room Tip: Seaside provides a lovely view of the park and Front Beach.

We were booked into the Palace Hotel next door to the Grand, but something happned and we ended up in the Grand,it was a lot dearer but we did not have to pay extra, great hotel, grat service but rooms were not as modern as the Palace, but all in all it still was good, breakfast was huge and a good location.

Room Tip: not sure ,all rooms were in a good quiet location
