“Formal university ”
Review of Chor-Minor

Chor-Minor
Ranked #7 of 63 things to do in Bukhara
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 April 2018 via mobile

Even though it’s rated one of the must visit site here in Bukhara I was not sure why. I learned that Chor Minor, the four pillars, was a formal university where teaching of Koran was taught, one side for classrooms and one wing for prayers.

Well worth a visit, was being renovated when I visited but a few respectable words to the workers got me inside, Probable the smallest mosque in the city

It's on the front of a well known guidebook! It was under restoration. Tip; walk there! Good shop with soviet memorabilia next door.

In an understated street, with only a few tourist shops, off Lyabi Hovuz is Chor Minor. Building with 4 blue topped domes. Apparently this is unusual in itself and allegedly represent 4 religions in Central Asia - because symbols are visible representing Christianity, Islam Bhuddism and Zoroastrian For a small fee you can climb to the top of one to reach the rooftop. Steep and narrow stairs but worth the view. It was very windy when we visited so not many people and better photos as a result.
Very interesting visit.
