One of the most beautifully located resorts I've ever stayed in - smack bang in the middle of the jungle, you are surrounded my nature from all angles. Sitting by the pool you watch loads of different butterflies, birds and other creatures - it's stunning. The villas themselves are roomy and have all the amenities you need if you want to self cater. However, it's very reasonable price wise to eat out so only really used the kitchen for breakfast. Pool is big enough to swim lengths. All in all a fab resort with lovely staff who seemed to be permanently happy. Recommend Tukta and Ying Yang for eating and a snorkelling trip with Roland - took us to bays we wouldn't have been able to reach otherwise. Will definitely return...

Room Tip: If I return I'd stay in a garden villa rather than a garden suite - smaller I think but slightly better views and easier access to the pool

Excellent value for money. Really nice, relaxed, friendly environment to stay in. Had the pool to ourselves every time we were down there. Rooms clean and comfortable.

A suggestion would be for the cleaners to check the credit on the mobile phones that are used to contact reception as ours ran out after the second day meaning we were unable to contact reception from the room, even though we mentioned it twice.

Track up from the main road can be a little tricky to navigate on moped.

We stayed at Woodlawn for three nights and enjoyed it a lot. It makes a great base to explore Ko Tao from as long as it's right for you. Below explains more:

Location - good with caveats. If you rent a scooter / ATV, no reservations at all - you can get anywhere quickly and park away from the madness of the main road. If walking everywhere as we were, it's still good but too far to walk to Sairee Beach (probably the busiest in terms of night life - would take about an hour). Taxis are very expensive on the island and this journey costs 400 baht. There aren't any songtaus like many places in Thailand.

Chalok beach is lovely as well and is only ten minutes walk, the pier 20. The much discussed hill up to the villas proved a non issue for us as we are healthy and actually enjoyed the excersize to walk off some of the islands superb food.

There's plenty to do / eat / drink on the main road at the bottom of the hill and a big supermarket which can provide for all your needs.

Accommodation - very comfortable. Our villa was big enough to spread out but no so big we couldn't find things. The living area has cable TV, fridge, sink, cutlery etc and a couch. The bedroom was simple but very comfortable and the bathroom the same. The air conditioner was effective and the wifi so good I could stream a football match live.

The setting is lovely with nice lawns and gardens as the name suggests. I wouldn't say it is tranquil though - we spent evenings out on our porch (very nice!) and could hear the music / noise from all around. This is Thailand though and I'm not sure I've been anywhere where it isn't noisy. We slept well though as it was fairly quiet in the bedroom.

Woodlawn are expanding at the moment so this meant building noise through the day. Again this wasn't much of an issue for us as we were out most of the time.

Pool - great. Enough beds and shade for everyone and very well maintained - a real plus for the property.

Staff - they made our stay special! We didn't meet the owners (did have a good chat with Luke on the provided mobile which is useful) but Mr Mo and the two young girls were a pleasure. We were always greeted with a genuine huge smile, the girls sing whilst they tend the gardens and Mr Mo is a real gentleman. All are very helpful indeed and are determined to make your stay a good one.

Room Tip: All villas looked great.

We spent 5 nights here on our honeymoon. Really quiet and peaceful location, often had pool to ourselves. Even if you don't rent a scooter you can easily walk to beach or get taxi to other bays. Luke and Michelle provide you with a phone which we found so useful for calling taxis and organising snorkelling trip with amazing guide Roland. Amazing couple of days on koh tao staying here.
