We booked this place based on the mostly positive TA reviews yet our experience was more indicative of the two & one star reviews which left us wondering about the validity of some of the positive reviews.

The property is very nice, some of the staff sweet, others very negative. The pick up at the ferry was absolutely chaotic and confusing and started off with us left standing on the side of the road for over twenty minutes with no instructions and not knowing if the driver was returning. The driver was in a very bad mood and very annoyed about something, it is probably good we do not understand Thai.

They explain how the resort works to us very exhausted guests and then talked to us like we were not very bright for not taking it all in the first time. We found the villa and the views very nice but we have stayed in much nicer for a lot less money. They got our breakfast order wrong every single day which is hard to understand. They also gotcha at the resort with expensive massages and a small restaurant with basic food selection served by surly staffs. After two days we found the village we had heard about and the food and massages were a fraction of the resorts price and much better and friendlier service.

The return trip to the ferry was as bad as the pick up. We were taken to the ferry almost four hours before necessary as another couple was catching an earlier ferry and they make you go when it is convenient for them and not the guest. Five stars they are not. Think one star. Just because our review is not positive we did actually stay here!

Dear mrptravelbug,

Thank you for your review! We appreciate all customers' reviews and take into consideration all constructive comments and suggestions.

To question the validity of reviews left by View Point Resort customers on Trip Advisor is insulting and disrespectful, this also brings into dispute Trip Advisor as a platform which we’re sure they don’t appreciate. Your statement is totally unfounded and completely untrue.
The reviews on Tripadvisor are from users and customers all around the world, it’s very difficult to falsify reviews and we take exception to this slant on our good reputation. All our reviews are from people who stayed at View Point Resort and, believe it or not, they were impressed with our resort, staff and services which were provided during their holiday and this is clearly validated by the number of positive reviews we have.

Mae Haad Pier on Koh Tao is a very busy place, especially when all boats arrive at the same time.
The taxi drivers are obliged to park their cars minimum 1 hour before ferry arrival times. Sometimes the car is parked a bit further away and customers have to wait for a while to free up the road and drive the car towards them.
We apologise for the lack of communication from our driver, but he doesn’t speak English very well as is the case with most Thai and Burmese service providers on the island. We have a fixed time for our complimentary taxi service to the pier which is 1h before departure. We are unsure how you ended up at the pier 4h before your ferry as this is certainly not the norm.
Our taxis depart the resort at 8.30am and 9.00am for the morning ferries leaving at 9.30am and 10.00am.
For ferries departing in the afternoon, we leave at 1.30 pm for the 2.45pm ferry and at 2.00pm for the 3.00pm ferry.

We provide a full briefing upon arrival regarding the resort itself, our services and explain where we are located on the island in relation to amenities outside the resort. This information is usually well received and appreciated from our guests.
We’re sorry that it was too much information for you. Perhaps you could have mentioned this to the receptionist upon check in.
We’re happy to walk you directly to your room and give you all the information whenever you are ready.

For your information, we are a 3 star hotel and not a 5 star. We do not purport to be a 5 star resort, however, we take pride in our hotel and the services and experience we offer to provide a memorable holiday for our guests.

We do appreciate people’s opinion and comments – negative or positive. So, thank you for sharing your experience with us and taking the time to write your review on Tripadvisor.

Excellent hotel, the standard here is very high for a three star hotel. I would say that the staff are some of the most friendly people we have been served by during our travels. There is a good number of English speaking staff especially on reception which really helps!
The rooms are well equipped and the pool/private beach area is truely amazing. The only downside is the number of steps which may be a problem if your not very mobile.

There are only good things to say about this small resort: it's clean, modern, beautiful, has comfortable beds, large rooms, balconies with a view, a good beach, a beautiful infinity pool, tasty breakfast - so all very good.
We are just getting a bit bored after a day or two as the resort itself is fairly small and there isn't really anything you can do except for lie by the beach/pool/balcony and relax. So we started taking longer walks around the nearby village (to get there, it's an easy 10 minute walk max). There, you find all you need, including very good restaurants.

While we had a good time, a word of caution for families with small kids however, as the balcony was too dangerous to let a toddler move around freely, and as there's usually a drop from the restaurant/pool/lawn down to the sea, with barely any fence, you'd always have to supervise your toddler/kid.

The resort provided us with free transfer coming/going.

Overall: great place for a few relaxing days - I can hardly find any negatives.

We stayed at the Viewpoint Resort for 3 nights and we could have stayed much longer.
Super friendly staff, great service and most of all: an absolute sweet spot on Koh Tao to just relax and enjoy the awesome view.
Everyone has their own cottage or villa.
For travelers on a budget, there are "garden view cottages" available for 2.400-3.000 THB per night. If you want to spend a little more money, you can have a pool villa with ocean view starting at 8.000 to 10.000 THB per night.
Definitely worth the money.

The restaurant is actually the best one we have been to in all of Thailand.
Breakfast is also great.

The hotel has a complimentary pick up service from the ferry pier. You just have to ask!

Really nothing to complain about, we were SUPER happy here :)

We’ve spent 5 nights in a garden view cottage. It is very quiet and located about 10 minuted walk distance to some shops and restaurants.

What we loved: The room as well as the complete resort are very clean and everything is nicely arranged. Breakfast was good and the restaurant area is facing the sea. The staff was incredibly friendly. Everything little thing was arranged with a lot of love for the details.

Space for improvement: we missed a beach area. There is a tiny beach next to the hotel where you can go snorkeling but it is not comfortable to swim there. But in Koh Tao quite normal.
Currently there is a construction work going on on top of the pool area. It is quite loud nearly the whole day and In my opinion a free dinner or lunch would have been a nice gesture for this.
