“super basic rooms. great food.”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

The rooms and bungalows are the most basic ones I've ever seen. Clean. But incredibly basic.

The hill is a monster -- it's definitely one where you must take everything you need for the day. You're not going to climb up that to get the sunblock you forgot.

Phi Phi is expensive so this is probably the cheapest. But probably not good value by any means, the cheapest rooms are 700 baht but for 950 we had AC and hot water in Bangkok...

Great quiet spot, snorkeling is great, views are great. Ideal if you want a couple days of quiet beach and sun.

Bonus: Tsunami safe, so you can sleep in peace. We were there the day after the April 11th Tsunami alert.

Turned up on Phi Phi without reservations and we wanted to get away from the tourist hell that is Ton Sai. We wanted to stay on Long Beach and the only realistic option for us was Phi Phi Hill which is the furthest point on long beach. We paid 2000 baht (£40) which is expensive for Thai, but not European standards, and in that heat we just wanted to dump out bags and hit the beach.
As previously stated it is a good few steps up a steep incline, the bags are taken up on some kind of pulley system. The staff are pretty surly, but then we found that at more expensive resorts on the island too. The breakfast isn't great either but its enough to get you going for the day. Our bungalow was quite sweet and right next to reception, we had a stunning view and to be honest the view is worth the £40 a night stay if you can tolerate the steps! Lovely air con and a spacious if out dated room - but who stays in their room on a beautiful island like Phi Phi. Long beach though is our favourite on Phi Phi and is only 100 Baht (each) long tail ride away from the night life of Ton Sai. For us it was an affordable option on a gorgeous island.

When you arrive by boat into the main harbour you need to get a long boat for 150bht to Long beech. This is the quieter side of Phi phi. To the right at the end of the beech you will find phi phi resort! It´s up high so there are alot of steps!! BUT there is a lift for your luggage. The bungalows are big, basic & clean. The food in the restaurant is really great and the staff are all friendly. Me and my boyfriend were on a strict budget of 1000bht a night so couldn´t go for air con but instead got a bungalow with a fan for 750 a night. There are some REALLY basic bungalows for 450 a night but it was a bit too far out for my boyfriend who´s used to all inclusive resorts!! ha ha! But i must say the cheap cheap bungalows had the best views! Get there early because it´s always full!! From long beech you can walk to the busy side as the night life is pretty quiet on long beech. The walk takes 30 mins and take a torch!!!

Phi Phi Hill Resort
We stayed here for 11 nights, two adults and two small kids. Relaxed, laid-back and friendly atmosphere, you end up talking to many of the guests, or watching thai boxing on TV with the staff.
The place has certainly improved since we visited it last 10 years ago. It has a much nicer garden and it offers lots of services (laundry, boat tickets, trips etc.). The view is still fantastic, and the restaurant simple, but has the best food on the beach. After a few days of trying around, we ended up eating all our meals here.
However, it’s a shame that they have done nothing about the cottages, they are exactly the same simple standard as 10 years ago. Small improvements, such as proper and better cleaning, removing the filthy rug by the bathroom door and replacing it with a clean towel, a couple of chairs to put the things on, reading lamps by the bed, some hangers on the walls, place to hang wet stuff to dry on the terrace… would make a big difference.
Good value for the money though (especially if they would make some of the improvements above). Long stair climb, but as you only do this once or twice a day we didn’t find it a problem, even with two small kids. LOTS OF mosquitos in the entire area (including the beach) so don’t forget to bring mosquito-repellent.

Room Tip: Sunset side bungolows are set in a nicer, better kept garden, while sunrise ones are in a bit “wilde...

We stayed at Phi Phi Hill for 3 nights and were impressed. The rooms are very big and the one we were in was well bug proofed (although that did not help with the noise they made at night - but this could not be helped and was due to the location!).

Two of the best features were the onsite restaurant and the boat trip to Maya Bay etc. The restaurant provided excellent value for money and the food was very tasty. The boat trip was also good value at 550 Baht p/p for the day, which included Bamboo Island and Maya Bay mixed in with some excellent bays which offered excellent snorkelling. The trip lasted from 9 through to 3 pm and we were able to snorkell in around 3 or 4 locations and not feel rushed at any stage. The fact the trip was done in a long boat added to the authenticity (far better than the speed boats you see at Maya Bay!!)

Location of the room was ok, Long Beach is very quiet, but the main town can be accessed via taxi boat for 100 Baht per person. The beach itself is also nice.

The only negative is the steps you have to climb from the beach to get to the resort itself!
