“barefoot luxury in Thailand”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

For those looking to disconnect and leave world formalities and etiquette behind, this is your place. Located right on the sand of this beautiful beach, this laid back resort in Koh Pangan is ideal for some lazy days of leisure. Relaxed atmosphere, charming and friendly staff, dramatic setting. Access is fairly quick from Koh Samui via private power boat, that takes you directly to the resort. The rooms are well appointed, spacious, with a good amount of technology. If your budget allows, book the ground floor suites in front of the beach, with comfortable daybeds, outdoor showers and good size plunge pools. While the rooms are very well distributed, there is no full privacy in balconies or terraces, due to layouts. Main pool area is beautiful, although not too large. A charming and very casual restaurant lets you feel the sand on your toes and enjoy a good mix of western and Thai dishes. Gardens are beautiful, and the Spa is an oasis of calm and pampering. The resort staff is genuine, friendly and beautiful. There is a bit of isolation there, as there is little infrastructure in the area, but we found that part of the charm. If you do go out, try Luna restaurant, a beautiful and very casual setting just a short walk from the hotel. All in all, a good place to go for a few days of beach luxury.

Room Tip: dowstairs rooms have more space and amenities. Choose the ones on the beach for the perfect setting.

we had about 12 days in this beautiful area and it was absolutly perfect. Very friendly staff an clean and nice rooms. For us it was perfect and we could say that if somebody is looking for a nice and relaxing place for sure he is right here. From the landing in Kho Samui a taxi took us to the lounge from the resort to take a boat to Koh Phangan - only this trip was an extra ordinary event. The breakfast buffet leaves nothing to be desired. A very good choice for people without children.

I feel a little harsh not giving this hotel 5/5. However, compared to other premium 5 star hotel I have stayed in there are a few training issues I think need to be sorted.

The location is wonderful, with an amazing Thail village behind, with a variety of great restaurants (Again and Againn, amazing authentic Thai food, Luna - awesome thai and fusin food) There is also Tanaporn massage which we thoroughly recommend.

The hotel is beautiful, an amazing setting. We had an Ocean Villa Suite, the plunge pool was ok, the room beautiful, a great layout.

We got private speed boat there and back, very good, lady representing Anantara on the Samui side was lovely as where most the staff.

Nice touch having the complimentary spirits in the room, very much appreciated

Food was nice and the staff friendly and tried to be helpful.

There are just a few things that I feel let down a hotel of this quality.

Breakfast: when busy it was chaos, some days had to ask for a menu, not all cuttlery on the table. No glasses for water, waiters not knowing where food was going. All simple issues that could easily be rectified with training. We stayed at the Sala Samui before and felt the serice there at breakfast was superior, the food was also a little better there.

Housekeeping: For some reason only got hand towels on the first day, somethjing I woulf not normally noitcie till I actually needed one (picky I know but for a £500 ish a night you expect a little better. When they houseservice cleaned they did not empty ash tray (I only had a few cigarettes over the 4 days but still). No replacement of beach towels ot the room, you had to go and get them yourself (again picky but something Sala did). Also I phoned and asked for extra pillows - they never came,

Bach loungers: Uncomfotable and dated, they need cusions. Also while outside our villa never had a waiter ask if we wanted drinks or fod once in the 4 days. To get anything I had to go hunting staff

As you can see the faults I found were minor, however to compete with other imprssive hotels I have stayed in such as the St. Regis, Four Seasons etc etc thee little touches need to be improved, they can quite easily be - with a diligent eye. A trip to Sala Samui (a cheaper Resort) would likely show a few ideas to make this one of the best hotels in Asia.

We will return as the location and beauty of the hotel and island are breathtaking.

Staying at Anantara (Koh Phangan) after being at Napasai (Samui) is like going from hell to heaven. The staff is nice and they listen to what you say. The beach is beautiful with no rocks to hurt your feet, the music goes perfectly with the rhythm of the day and you always feel like this is the place you were looking for in Thailand.
Mark, the General Manager of the place is always around and you feel like he is here to arrange what ever you may need.
The room are very nicely decorated, the beach offers comfortable sun-beds and the breakfast is great. In short, every thing has been very well done to make you feel in peace and harmony with the nature.
I could speak for hours about the good vibes and good energies I have received being at the Anantara (koh PhanNgan). I will come back soon and will stay longer next time.

Room Tip: The closer to the beach, the more beautiful it will be !

We stayed here for only 3 nights during our tour of Thailand on our honeymoon. Of our 3 week trip the time we spent at Anantara Rasananda was the absolute highlight. From the moment we arrived at the small hut on Koh Samui to board the private speedboat right through to our chauffeured drive back to Koh Samui airport, we couldn't fault anything.
The staff are some of the most friendly, well spoken people I think we have ever come across in our travels. They wouldn't hesitate to help with even the most mundane tasks and always did so with a smile. We were fortunate to meet the resident Chef extraordinaire Tony Wrigley on our trip over to the resort. Tony is such a down to earth guy and really made us feel right at home from the very beginning, he even went to the trouble of writing down some suggestions of equally great places to visit in Bangkok which was our next destination.
The resort itself is breathtaking! We stayed in a garden view room which was absolutely perfect. The rooms were a great size and are decorated in the most beautiful furnishings. The private pool was also a great bonus for those times when we just wanted to chill out in the room. We also loved that the rooms had a great selection of movies to watch via the use of the Apple TV system.
The main pool/bar/restaurant area is so beautiful. We spent an entire day by the pool doing nothing much but drinking and eating. The restaurant and bar have a great selection of meals and drinks and all taste amazing.
There really is nothing we could fault with this resort, we loved every minute we spent there. Maybe the only bad things that we could think of was that we didn't stay long enough!!
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan to anyone wanting a blissful break in one of the more beautiful islands Thailand has on offer.
