“Thai Owned/Managed Modern Property”
Reviewed 30 August 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights in August 2012 and although it was the shoulder season and maintenance was taking place everywhere around us, we had a wonderful time. The rooms have the biggest and best beds we had on our 12 day vacation throughout Thailand and the mosquito net is also of a very high quality and the staff prepare it for you at night. This means that you can sleep with both large sliding doors open and enjoy the fresh air, rain, breeze throughout the night. Only do this with a breeze coming from the sea... otherwise it'll be too warm. Breakfast is basic but serves the purpose. iPod players in the room. Thai Massages near the beach under the open sky are a nice addition. The beach is not great on this part of the island as a lot of crap washes ashore from nearby Phi Phi, but the hotel does clean their part. However, the view of the sunset is not clear over the ocean, but rather disappears behind the trees of the bay. You are VERY close to the pier though for onward connections. Very good personal touch and if we returned to Ko Lanta we'd definitely go back!!

Room Tip: Nothing really beach front on this property, but try not to be too far into the garden as the breeze...

We have stayed in this cool design hotel in february in a garden cabana. I have ejoyed the stylish interior of the cabana, rainforest shower and huge swimmingpool very much. A private section of the beach belongs to the hotel, there is as well the costa lanta water sports, which offers wind surfing lessons.

The food in the restaurant was always amazing, although for thailand quite expensive.

I can really recommend this hotel to couples or friends (without children) to enjoy a soothing, stylish and relaxing holiday in Ko Lanta.

Review Costa Lanta

Costa Lanta resort is now 10 years old and as far as maintenance is concerned it needs more love and on close inspection is looking starting to look a little tired. There needs to be some updating to the wood and metal in this resort. Anything metal is rusty and my partner fell through a wooden walkway on the first night (no injuries). Despite this there is a certain charm about this place and even with its age it's still very architecturally cool and has stood the test of time from a design standpoint.

We are staying in a superior garden room which has glass on 2 sides. These rooms are also much larger and lighter than the standard rooms and the have plenty of storage. My only issues with these rooms was the lack of privacy from the blinds that do not cover to the windows edge by about 50cms and they are short of lights, therefore you can't read at night. No TV so bring bring a laptop and buy your DVD's in town for nights entertainment. Also worth a mention is the huge and very comfortable king size beds.

Now let's talk food. Its good, but the dinner menu is better and if your into presentation and atmosphere then this has it. But you can get good food half price outside the resort if you can be bothered (I'm talking $3 difference), but some of it is average. As for cocktails our experience has been better than any where else, unless of course you like your cocktails with little alcohol, which you can buy elsewhere else along the beach.  So kick back, relax on a daybed, watch the sunset with a few cocktails and start your evening.

Costa Lanta location is at the north end of the beach. It's nice and quiet but only a short walk to other restaurants and bars along the beach. Some may find this a little isolated but this stretch of beach is far nicer than Long Beach. If you want more bar action, Long Beach is less than a 5min taxi away and cheap as chips to get there.

Of the 3 resorts we stayed at over a 2 week trip, Costa Lanta was our favorite. One last thing. My partner and I agreed this would be a top resort to take over for a wedding.

Room Tip: Go for the superior rooms as they are larger.

Costa Lanta is easily the most stylish resort in Ko Lanta. We had a Garden view Cabana which was absolutely gorgeous with a huge spacious bathroom, including several shelves and a wardrobe with a second wardrobe in the bedroom. However, while the two sides of the main room being made from glass meant that there was plenty of light, it also meant that you had to have the outside blinds closed if you wanted a bit of privacy. Slightly defeats the object if the advertise with the fact of bringing the outdoors into the room and being close to nature. For theis reason they suggest leaving the wide doors open, which is not an option due to the mosquito infested surrounding swamps. This was truly our biggest grudge, as it meant that the room and mosquito net was sprayed with pesticides and mosquito coils lit in the bathroom. As the bathroom had a partly open roof there were still loads of mozzies. The shower often had only cold water and a weak water pressure - an absolute no go for such a posh resort!!
The grounds as such were a bit of a disappointment too, as is is muddy and they seemed to struggle with a green foliage in the garden. The landscape looked all a bit tired and worn and in stark contrast to the beautiful architecture of the buildings.
The restaurant was out of this world with a spot on friendly service and beautifully presented tasty dishes. Compared to other restaurant in Thailand it is on the pricier side, but worth every penny! I recommend the Tempura ice cream (ice cream deep fried in a batter!) for desert - just simply out of this world!!
The infinity pool right in front of the restaurant was one of the highlights - finally a pool which invites to go for a proper swim rather than just a dip due to its decent size and depth. The staff from the restaurant came to the pool and beach to take orders for drinks now and again which was very much appreciated.

Having read mixed reviews on tripadvisor we assumed Costa Lanta was one of those places that rightfully polarizes opinion. The place you either totally get, or totally dont. Needless to say we got it and loved it.

@GARDEN VIEW CABANA
Each room is set within it's own sleepy patch of rainforest, and emerges in the form of a concrete box with heavy wooden barn doors that bring the outdoors in. The room was dominated by a very large bed and lacked any formal storage – arriving with only one suitcase and wearing only swimwear this didn't cause us any great plight. A perfect cuddle nest for sleeping and rest. The main room lead through to a generously sized bathroom formed from super sexy polished concrete and transparent sunlight ceiling. Rainforest shower as standard, huge sink and neatly tucked away toilette. The bathroom also had a large storage cupboard and safe, which solved the lack of storage in the bedroom. The air-con was very effective and mosquito nets a blessing. The whole cabin felt perfectly isolated and peaceful. As previous reviewers have mentioned, we didn't see much difference between a garden and sea view cabana.

@RESTAURANT
The chef here is very talented. Having eaten at some of the 'finest' restuarants in Bangkok we found the food here to be much more thrilling. We dined elsewhere on Koh Lanta (Time for Lime, Maladee), but learnt our lesson very quick..... This must be the best food on the island, certainly on Klong Doa beach. The prices were high (for Thailand), with mains priced at rough £6, cocktails £5. Yet compared to London this is bargain basement. You get what you pay for - exciting dishes, beautiful presentation, quiet surroundings, good hospitality and good playlists. We ate here for 10 meals out of 12 and we were never let down, only delighted.

@STAFF
We were greeted with smiles and a welcome bottle of red. If you're expecting to be treated like royalty don't come here. If you want to be given space and independence, yet to feel cared for when desired, then do come. Many of the staff speak limited English, but honey this is Thailand. We only felt foolish for being unable to say anything in Thai. Their smiles go a long way! B the manager was available at all times to help advise and book day trips, and to confirm our transfers and flights whilst we were there. His wife and son were an adorable addition to the resort. The staff work incredibly hard here to keep the resort spotless and well nourished.

@POOL
The envy of Klong Dao. Despite there being other guests we never had to share it. The pool area is clean and in keeping with the Costa Lanta design ethos. It was also the perfect temperature for many slippery dips throughout the day.

@BEACH
Costa Lanta's grounds rolled into Klong Dao beach. Staff attentively cleaned the beach of pine cones and raked the immediate sand daily. Plenty of sunloungers, day beds, benches and hammocks are located here. Yes there are millions of crabs when the tide is low, nature in action and nothing to be scared of. They also run in panic at the sound of forthcoming footsteps. The beauty of the beach was the amount of space for everyone. Oh and motorized watersports are a no-no, which kept an optimum level of peace.

@ACTIVITIES
There was a building on the edge of the ground owned by Aussie Sam and Kiwi Jo- these guys were great and hired out any watersports equipment we could think of. We paddle boarded out to the reef everyday to snorkel with the enchanting creatures of the sea. We also had a somewhat challenging, yet totally beneficial massage during our stay (approx £14 for an hour). B the manager also organised our trio to Phi Phi (which was manic in comparison to Lanta!). Costa Lanta also provided free cycles, which were perfect for early morning rides to Saladan town (5mins) to stock up on cheap fags and local wares.

@MOSQUITOS
Did you know rainforests have mosquitos? Of course. We packed some killer repellent (search for REPEL100 on amazon) and were bitten twice in 7 days. Coils are lit in the room and bathroom every evening and the obligatory net is drawn round the bed every evening. We also found there to be absolutely no insects at the pool, restaurant and beach at any time of day or night. Only the cabins..... A small price to pay for the lucious surroundings most can agree. Just be wise with using protection at night kids....

SUMMARY
If you don't like it here you're an idiot.
