This area has temple ruins to explore and you can see the layers of architecture in the rubble. Not as crowded as other spots so it was nice to explore at a leisurely pace.

One my last visit here, to years ago, I forgot to take a picture of the Buddha head in the tree. So, guess what I did...

The temple itself is worth a visit. A lot of (more than a couple of years ago) Chinese tourists here. It can get very, very hot here so go early to avoid the heat and crowds. We didn’t, and where slowly melting away.

Did a little pre reading enjoyed it on our own early in the morning before hoards of Chinese groups turned up, before 10:00am is best. Paths in good order and more being laid made going around easier. Signs in Thai and English to give you a time period and background. It was great the week before Songkran lots of families in National Costume with a friendly festive atmosphere. Normally 100 baht each but free today. Afterwards a recuperating break at the restaurant across the road then the next Wat!

Book a day tour with AK tour using klook. Reliable tour agency. But dislike the tour guide asking for additional tips despite us paying usd50+ for the day tour. Very hot weather around 40°c.

Our favourite stop, not just for the banyan Buddha but for the ruins themselves: wonderfully ramshackle, half tumbling post earthquakes, but with a scale and a presence that is extremely powerful. It gets extremely hot and there is very little shade - so bring plenty of water and hats/umbrella. Some beautiful photo opportunities, so worth trying to get there quite early before the masses descend!
