“Its a real experiance”
Reviewed 2 February 2012

Be there very early, my be by 5 to 6 am. Try to have a shower on all the well. there are guides who you could get for a small fee they will take you around and organize the shower.

It is a ritual to leave your cloths behind that you were wearing during the shower. Believes that you leave all your sins behind.
DO NOT forget to take the dry cloth to change.

“Most amazing mandapas”
Reviewed 12 January 2012

Long beautiful mandapas (corridors), inexplicably the 16th century ornate pillars were knocked down and replaced by these plain cement pillars. You can see the originals in pieces on the ground. The temple was first built in the Chola era, but most of the parts date back more recently to the Nayakan 17th century.

“Sacred pure and Divine”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

Liked the bath in 22 kunds and darshan of lord shiva.
The water tastes different in each kund even when many of them are next to each other.
Dislike the touts and temple priests. They are money mongers.

“Gorgeous temple, but do not go in peak season”
Reviewed 4 January 2012

The temple is one of the jyotirling and it is a huge temple, the darshan process is to first take bath in the Sea (nearby the temple) and than do the 22 Teerthsnan in the temple, the tickets are Rs. 25 which includes Darshan ticket as well. The badged people dip the bucket in the holy kund and pour the water over you. Once done with teerthsnan you need to dry yourself and than have darshan of Lord Shiva. The Spatik darshan happens between 5 AM - 6 AM whereby the Crystal Lingam is worshipped and Abhishehkam is performed. If you just want to have darshan, than you skip the teerth process as it is not mandaotry but recommended. The kund direction are marked at the temple and it is advisable to follow the direction. If you are going in peak period, some of the badged people help you for an extra charge to go around quickly. The temple is a very good example of architecture. It is recommended that you enter the temple from East Gate
