The worst hotel experience i have ever had in my life. Untidy and small rooms, dirty linen, no warm water in bathrooms, TVs don't work, room phones don't work, service standards are very poor. The staff dose not respond to guest queries and they behave as if they are doing a favor to the guests. The rates are too high compared to the kind of service and room quality they are providing. The cherry on the cake is the food. The breakfast is sad, tasteless and non appetizing. Overall a very UNPLEASANT experience.
Just returned from Bharatpur after attending pre wedding functions. We were housed in Udai Vilas Palace Hotel on the Sikri Road for three nights. I would like to mention, what an absolutely brilliant time we had. The staff is extremely courteous and willing to attend to your smallest requests with a smile.
We had well appointed suite rooms, extremely comfortable beds, one would just sink in and sleep very soundly. Jucquizi bath tubs with hot water flowing throughout the day are normal occurrences here. Was told by fellow wedding guests they were restricted to hot water timing in other hotels with terrible arrangements hiding under the garb of a heritage property. Poor people, seems we were the privileged ones.
The buffet breakfast was extremely tasty and not repetitive. The milkshakes and the cold coffee deserve a special mention. The choice was also extremely good, one day the vegetarian section had Bedmi puris with Aloo, Cheese toasts, Katchoris, Poha, Emartis, Halwa. Eggs to order, three different cereals, fruits, toast with butter and jams and preserves. Next day it was Aloo puris, Parathas, Idli sambhar, Halwa, Jalebis. The staff was in attendance and helpful, always trying to make you feel at home. We also ate lunch here once, the dishes which deserve special mention are Dal Makhni, Paneer Lababdar, Malai kofta, laal maas.
The hotel was following stringent covid rules and regulations. Much to our satisfaction and safety.
We met a very affable gentleman who was keen to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. Later we realised he was the owner Mr. Udai Singh, a humble and a simple man with no pretensions. His efforts are a labour of love. Wonderful hotel, don't waste time looking for another hotel. This is the place to stay in Bharatpur.
Like many hotels in India, this is a bit of a false oasis amidst the sands of poverty. There were signs that building work was going on sporadically, but the general layout is quite beautiful. Our room was clean and spacious with soft pillows and a massive bed. There was complimentary water, but no tourism pack, simply the restaurant and room service menus.
Little things are always appreciarted, especially as at sunset candles were lit on each of the outside tables. However, possibly due to a wedding party coming the next day, we seemed to be almost the only patrons. It was very unnerving to eat entirely alone in the dining room while five staff members watched us, but food was brought instantly. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented. Breakfast was buffet, but with eggs any style including omelettes.
We had asked if the hotel was empty at what should in our mind be peak season. We were informed there were 500 guests arriving for a wedding, which explained some of the gorgeous decorations. Gazebos with fresh flowers blankets, hanging drapes and baskets.
And guests arriving and arguing in the halls at 5am.
Whether because of this or it was a common problem, there was no hot water at all in the morning. The cold tap ran warm after about 10 minutes, the toilet roll was as soft as wrapping paper.
However, on the plus side, the service was exceptional. A staff member at all times ready to help or assist, though that may have partially due to being pretty well the only people in the hotel I think the wedding planning was taking up a lot of man hours and we can't blame the early wake up arguments if the guests thought or had the attitude that they were the only ones staying there.
Overall, we might have enjoyed our stay if we could have slept through the night and had a warm shower in the morning.
