Delightful ambiance

Review of The Bagh
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Mar 2018via mobile
The Bagh is a beautiful property among gardens and peacocks who have made it their home, located about 5 minutes from the main entry gate of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. It is about 1 hour from Agra, about 20 minutes from Fatehpur Sikri and about 45 minutes from Deeg Palace, making it an ideal central point to stay in for all round visits. It is well lit in the evenings and has a restaurant which the locals of Bharatpur consider one of the best. For birders to the Bird Sanctuary it offers packed breakfast and lunches so that there is no need to return for breakfast and lunch to the hotel. Its rooms are spacious and the service good.Ideal for long walks in the gardens, particularly in winter. The only other property which can compete for location is the Ashoka Hotel, inside the park, but that is not well maintained and has a worn out look.Maybe for serious wildlife photographers the Bagh may be a disadvantage because it will take at least an extra 45 minutes to get to the inner gate of the national park,as compared to those staying at the Ashoka, and this may be a consideration for early morning entrants. But for general bird watchers who do not want to push themselves for an early start Bagh is an ideal hotel with a delightful ambiance.

The Bagh has a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and a lovely pool! It's only a few minutes' drive from the Bharatpur bird sanctuary which made it convenient for our group. There were good birding opportunities inside the property as it's large and has many flowering and fruiting trees.

The room was a disappointment , no windows , bathroom fittings are dated, room was rectangular in shape with limited width and too much depth. The hotel has huge open spaces with lots of flora and fauna, took leisurely stroll in the hotel itself in evening in the midst of fragrance from night blooming jasmine, lots of peacocks roam around in the hotel grounds, we even spotted an Indian grey hornbill family on a tree just outside our room, hordes of jungle babblers too, the pool looked nice, buffet choice was limited but adequate, service at their restaurant could be better, air conditioning in their restaurant needs improvement, if you are a bird lover and looking for a luxurious, huge, clean hotel this is the place for you. In Bharatpur you wont exactly find a five star hotel but the bagh is one of the best hotels in Bharatpur. Enjoy the tranquility of nature and sounds of different birds while you are there, staff is helpful. Recommended for nature loving and peace loving families to spend time away from hustle and bustle of cities.

A great place to stop over after Agra/Fatehpur Sikhri , much quieter than those places - plus access to Keoladeo Bird Park.
Huge gardens, full of birds, makes it a great place to relax.
Very good pool ( although spa was closed)
Restaurant staff very attentive, and a reasonable menu
Wifi only at the office area
Very good value ( esp compared to Agra!)

We stayed here for one night a couple of weeks ago.
The room smelt of urine and the drains were blocked in our bathroom. We moved rooms. The second room the decor was very tired and tatty as was the bathroom and the shower curtain was disgusting. The restaurant had no wine list and no wine - 2 half bottles of white and one half bottle of red. Food basic.
The gardens were unkept and the whole place felt it had been rather abandoned, we have since heard that this hotel has gone down hill enormously in the last few months.

We stayed over at the Bagh for 2 nights in December 2017 as part of a 2-week birding trip in Northern India. We were amazed that such a pristine piece of nature could be found in the middle of the city. The hotel is basically a set of one-level buildings set in a sprawling garden, with wide walkways connecting all the buildings to each other. The rooms were huge and comfortable, the food in the restaurant was excellent and made perfectly to order, and the staff catered to our every whim and request. The hotel grounds provided us with excellent birds, and we even saw a civet one night when walking back from dinner! The Bagh is an essential stopover if you are doing a trip in and around Bharatphur, and we will definitely be back.

Room tip: Some of the rooms are interconnected; make sure you choose one according to your preference.
