“Overpriced tourist rubbish, don't bother.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2012

Its likely that at very special times of the year its perhaps impressive.
It definitely isn't in February/March (a little surprising).
The guides and rickshaw drivers clearly consider it a lucrative business for them to milk as much tourist money as possible.
The entry fee of 400inr each is grossly excessive and with guides/transport on top.
My recommendation is don't bother.
You start with a 1/2 hr drive to the main area (which you pay for, taking 1hr out of your time). They will show you a few birds (they know exactly what they are and where they will be). Then to the observation area, then back. We were there 2h20min and saw about 20 species of bird, half of which I could find in the UK, and almost all the rest I had already seen (incl owls).

When we finished they wanted payment for 3 hrs (not 2.5hrs) and then demanded (somewhat intimidatingly) a tip on top, which they neither deserved nor got. Why tip someone for doing the barest minimum of his job, who then effectively threatens you?

Try Tamil Nadu for birds (or even the site in Goa), all free and with vastly more species seen closer/better.

“So many beautiful birds and they come from so far to this place, how did they discover the place?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2012

I liked the park very much as it was my first experience of visiting a world heritage park. Our rickshaw wallah guide was a storehouse of knowledge and information on birds but the authorities in charge of the park should take some measures to provide more information about the birds.

“Great place, small, bad bikes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Get a guide (not expensive) to really get to know the park. It's not to big and with a guide you get off the beaten tracks. The bikes they have for rent (only 40 rps) are really bad ones, but they'll get you around.

“Tranquility ....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2012

Very tranquil, quiet, bucolic scenery. The peacefulness of this park is wonderful--an oasis amidst the more common chaos of India. I love that chaos and activity, but one needs a respite sometimes. This park is a place to find it.

However...we ddi not see many birds. I am not a "birder" so this didnt matter, but if i were, might have had different reaction.

We took a bicycle rickshaw and the driver pointed out birds and animals. I don't know if taking one of the official guides would have led to more sightings.

Away from the park, turing into it from the highway, the town of Bharatpur itself is unattractive and dusty. Unless you are "into"birds, i would NOT recommend a special trip here--maybe just an hour on the way between Agra and Jaipur, if you need to break up the trip.
