I arrived by rickshaw from Bharatpur station at 2:30 am and it was hard to find, as it is on an unlit stretch of National Highway 11 and the hotel name board near the road is not lit up, so I had to get down and walk over to read it by moonlight. Like most of the hotels here, it’s set well back from the road behind locked gates, but fortunately there was a watchman in the guard post and I was able to get in. I had knocked on the gates of a few other hotels to ask directions, but none of them had a watchman on duty. If you are going to arrive in Bharatpur at night, it’s best to make sure they know when you are coming and have a watchman at the gate.
I thought this place was a bit overpriced at A$81 ( about Rs4,400) for 2 nights without breakfast. My room was close to the reception desk and clean, the free wifi worked well, the bed was comfortable, and there was good hot water in the shower ( but not the hand basin), but the bathroom floor was slippery and stayed wet all day.
The building looks impressive from the front, but my room was very plain and tgere were no English channels on the flat screen TV.

After 2 nights here I moved to the Park Regency Hotel which is closer to the bird park, has a higher standard of amenity and includes a free breakfast. On my last visit in 2008 I stayed at the Kadamb Kunj Hotel, which is also better than Sonar Haveli.More
