I went to Pul Kanjari 2 years ago after reading about it in a blog. I was instantly sold by the idea of a lesser known place within drivable distance of Amritsar. It is a short and enjoyable drive to the village passing through green fields and beautiful sceneries. I was instantly in love with the rural charm of the place the moment I reached there.
Pul Kanjari has an interesting history, a war memorial, a single house (at least that was the case 2 years ago) and 300m proximity to the border. I interacted with the only family there who offered me some tea and great insight into the village life. I also enjoyed seeing the war memorial. The army camp in Pul Kanjari invited me to see the Pakistan flag from their telescope on the other side. It was so amazing to see a country that was a part of us only a few decades ago, now heavily guarded on both sides.
Dont go there with a lot of expectations as all you can see is a rundown heritage site, an enthusiastic guard/guide who will tell you all about the history of the place, a war memorial and border fencing. However, the feeling of being so close to history and border is a feeling like none other. It is definitely worth a day trip and something I would recommend over wagah border that has only become a show over the years.
